So, Soup, will there be opportunity to "live" with the 3s?wink.gif I know the LCD potential and sounds like the 3 may be the "finished" LCD to compete with the SR/HE stats. If the 3 starts converting HE-6 users, the battle will have been won. (HE-7 Doc?)

If you have imaging issues (center) with these orthos then I recommend getting more power. I think the 800s are brighter than the 6.

It's good times in the headphone hobby these days.

So I brought my LCD3's to work to show a friend, and we just hooked it up to a nuforce HDP, nothing special. Well, the LCD3 does sound better than the HE-6 through that, and, dare I say; sounded better than on the gung/mjolnir in terms of tonality/ freq balance! On top of that, both headphones (especially HE-6) were being inadequately driven.

It's really hard to determine which is the better headphone; they're that close in terms of performance. The HE-6 definitely benefit more from a speaker amp, and scale up sky high; but I'm assuming and LCD-3 on a high end HP amp can sound just as good (balancing act/ stratus caliber).

It's hard to judge, they both have strengths and weakness' for sure. I still prefer the HE-6 over the LCD-3 on the gung/mjolnir, my Sansui Eight Deluxe and Marantz 2270; but that's understandable.

I also had the chance to hear the LCD-3 with another head-fier's norse cable and it did open up the stage and fixed the mid/ high bass issues (really needed both of  those); so I am a bit more impressed with them and realized they're much more neutral than with the nucleotide cable.

Yeah,

The plan is for Chase to get the 800s this coming weekend.  Hope he'll have his hands full doing the mod.

But wait.  All I have is this dual 3-pin XLR cable that I don't like very much.  As soon as I get a Norse Cable for the 800s I'll just send it to you Soup..

The dual three pin will work just fine, the Mjolnir has 4 pin and dual 3 pin xlr outputs :D

and that works for me as well HC, sometime next year ill totally be down to let you borrow the LCD-3s for a bit. And youll be able to get some good listening time in with them this coming weekend as well.

Is this amp that good.  That it drives the 3s better than the mojo IYO??  This guy told me this amp sound really good with all his headphones including the 3s and the 6s.

Looks well thought out. We could use the 30 day return to compare it......

Whoa hold on! I just tried it for fun as I brought my headphones to work to show colleagues. I think its sound sig sounds better (better balance) than the gung/mjoln combo with the lcd3; but it's nowhere near as good on a technical level and portraying image, soundstage depth and width, decay speed etc etc.

I just feel my LCD3 does not like my mjoln/gung combo; the schiit stack definitely is boosted in the bass, and you hear it right away with the LCD3. With the HD800 it's also apparent, but it is welcomed; but still not an ideal amp because of its SS soung sig. I enjoy my HE-6 the most currently as it works best with most genres.

I've been using my HE-6 with the Nuforce Icon2 which is their usb dac/preamp/speaker amp. It does a fine job powering them and compares quite favourably with big receivers.

Yeah we carry the whole line of Nuforce. We wanted to try it on the Icon 2.. but those damn speaker adapters!! The Nuforca Dia may be another alternative. I will try it next week and let you know what I think with the HE-6.

Love both HE-500 and LCD-2 for electronic music, both are better than my D2000 or PRO 900. I primarily listen to EDM. Both have awesome bass as far as I'm concerned for pretty much every genre.

HE-6s for me and i listen to metal 90% of the time. When properly amped, these cans are NOT bright but they really resolve the entire frequency range and it makes it very enjoyable..well, save for the slight weight issue as compared to other cans of mine.
