Lol its harder to make comparison to the amps than headphones... They are both really good and are on par with each other. I'll say the T1 has a wider sound stage. A very good technical performer. The sound is also very balanced. The tonality is the best part on this amp. I'd say I even like it more than on the Leckerton. The Leckerton has more focus on depth than width. But since I also change the Op-Amps that further changes the sound. So it makes it harder to make comparisons from that perspective. But the Leckerton is the over all better amp IMO. It just depends on what you'll pair them with. I'd see you being happy with either of them. I do prefer my T1 with my DX100 however (synergy). But also at different times I'll use my MKII with it. My moods change and so do my sound signature preferences...

Didn't you look at the beginning of the thread? There are pictures with different colors ;). The website will be further upgraded in the next couple of weeks to include choice options. But in the meantime if anyone does place orders you can communicate with them regarding your options.

(merlin is more mids forward and has more sparkle in the highs (I think UM are onto something with their 1-7khz tuning), but the sub-bass is not as extended/accentuated)

Yeh mate - just contact the email provided to see if your ideas can be realised. It is essentially, a choice of faceplates: carbon fibre or aluminium, then choose colors (you can have whole shell colored, you can have only the faceplate section colored, you can have clear, you can vary colors on left/right IEMs). I think only thing you cannot do is logos or similar - though this is only an assumption since I have seen no evidence of this.

I should probably ask but I assume the sources and cables were the same when you were comparing?

sources - yes, cable no - we weren't allowed to unplug the demo cable unfortunately. (and you might not believe in cables). merlin had a stock UM cable, 1+2 - a silver one of some sort that was allegedly fancy and expensive?

Why am i not getting immediate notifications head-fi? lol yes I believe in cables. Apparently they transfer audio from a source/amp to speakers...ksc75smile.gif. I'm sorry it was there for the taking....

What are the prices for these Merlins? The website is quite secretive...

check www.custom-iem.com and look carefully at the um's au merlin page? biggrin.gif (800-850 new depending on dealer, incl stock cable, less used and reshelled. More color choices but no free carbon faceplates)

>Apparently they transfer audio from a source/amp to speakers

Audio is magic that is in our heart and soul! Apparently, placebo effect and expectation bias are prevalent, as per measurements of speaker cables and DBT studies by AES wink.gif . Sorry, it was there for the taking.
Anyway, not the place to debate this.

Hmmm, odd I was told each IEM has to be a single color (can't have a different colored faceplate). That annoyed me (wanted clear body and left fp - blue, r fp - red), but maybe I misunderstood.

hahah you got me..and yes I agree with you on that portion as well. You can begin to expect to hear things and that is what you will most likely hear. The power of the mind is indeed strong!

"Audio is magic that is in our hear and soul!" - Now that is what I call a quote!

EDIT: I was apparently looking at the wrong site (The Australian version): http://www.uniquemelody.com.au/lineup/merlin/ - told me nothing...

wink.gif hence why I dislike Tralucent not offering a standard cable option. It's their business model though.

um, at the top lol - 'starting from 850'. heh. UM also do recessed sockets for free. I like recessed sockets. They feel... Safe. <--- no weird OCD at all.

Dammit head-fi - still no emails for immediate replies.

Apparently I am partially blind. So I'm sure that trumps your OCD.

EDIT: what do you mean by standard cable - they have copper or silver/copper or silver/gold from what I understand.

They are more pricey cables and are made of pure silver cable (with great build quality) and the top one is made of silver and gold. Not sure if they have a standard cable. I was kinda thinking so with the basic price... ( "With SPC cable" listed on the site). My replacement cable has added refinement IMO over the older broken cable. I was a bit skeptical about the sound even changing. It got more smooth, refined. Bass has better texture to it. Very well controlled yet so powerful. I'm not use to this kinda quality and quantity (the unique combination of the two) on any IEM.
