Tralucent Audio 1Plus2 IEM Appreciation/Impressions Thread - Page 7

This is a quote from the email I received from the Tralucent Audio rep here in Oz:

The introductory price is

$880 with SPC cable
$980 6N OCC silver cable
$1080 with a 6N OCC silver/gold cable
If you have cables already then just the Earpiece is $780.

So apparently the SPC cable is standard?

Btw I forgot to mention there is also wood faceplates.

See I figured so. It said SPC cable above with a *. Otherwise I'd be a bit skeptical on that move. Always better to offer at least some form of a basic cable. Yet I have a feeling even that cable will be better than your standard cables knowing Tralucent. ;)

So nk77 did you order anything? Curious to hear your impressions :).

Yeh mentioned in previous posts. Decided to go silver/gold with T1 amp. Not enough money for the Leckerton at the moment though...

So that means you bought the 1Plus2 with silver/gold cable? Nice. I'm jealous lol. I want to try out that cable. I'll most likely buy that cable down the road. I could then use the second cable on the 8As when I eventually get them. Currently rocking out with the MDR-7550s with the T1 Amp/DACport LX. Very musical and non-fatiguing sound. I've been falling asleep with the MDRs lately. I think that's a good sign.

Thought I might spoil myself..But like I said earlier Lee - don't spend any more, just give me all your money....and I will buy those 8As for you lol. Do you mean the Heir Audio btw?

Yeah. I had committed to a buy sometime ago and still intend on getting a pair when finances permit. Plus Heir has a really good resale value due to their great customer service. I'm hoping by February of next year I'll be able to get them. No guarantees though.

I think it can. Just contact them via email to inquire about it. They are very accommodating.

Well there is a fellow headfier in Hawaii that just recently acquired the Fitear 334. So we may meet up and do some comparisons down the road.

Some initial impressions:

The 1P2 is a very aesthetically pleasing c/iem.  The gold carbon fiber with purple (left housing) shell is really very nice looking. The universal version is quite comfortable to wear and is a somewhat shallow fit.  I tried just about every tip in my arsenal and the only pair that gave as good a fit and sound of the stock tips were the UE TF10 silicone tips; and it’s no wonder, they are very similar in overall shape with the UE tips bore being slightly bigger.  I found the gold and silver cable to be pretty stiff and quite stubborn to tame.  Later in the week I’ll compare it with a Twag v2 and a BTG Sunrise cable.

The 1P2 wows upon first listen.  It has big bass and a spacious and open soundstage.  The sound signature I’m getting from them is a slight V shape.  Not as much as the FX700 but vocals are further back from the Merlin (memory), Eymotic ER-6 and the FitEar TG334. My one word description of the 1P2 would be: FUN!  They are just simply very fun.  They are not an iem I’d necessarily choose for critical or analytical listening but rather a just pop them in and rock out kind of experience.

The obvious comparisons would be to the UM Merlin and AKG K3003 due to their shared technologies.  I no longer have these two earphones but have written reviews of both, so I can give some comparative impressions from memory.  As with anything from memory, take it with a grain of salt!

Both the Merlin and 1P2 have pretty big bass that extends nice and deep.  I remember the Merlin bass as being one of the tightest I’ve heard but that’s not to say the 1P2 is loose or flabby.  It’s much tighter and responsive than the MG6Pro’s tubby and bloated bass.  The 1P2 has a larger bass presence than the K3003.  While I’d describe the K3003 more balanced with bass and treble presence, the 1P2 (like the Merlin) is a bass first signature.  Of the 3, I think the 1P2 is the easiest to hear as a hybrid; and I think the Merlin’s extra mid drivers help to blend in the overall mix technologies.  That being said, I don’t find the hybrid technology to be a distraction in any of them.

The big difference in the Merlin and 1P2 is in the mids and vocals.  The Merlin has a bump in FR from 1k to 3k that tends to help bring the vocals and guitars more forward (and in my Merlin review I found similarities between the RE262 and Merlin vocals).  In the 1P2, I hear this area being behind the Merlin, putting more space between you and the vocalist and guitar players, giving you slightly bigger feeling of space, whereas the Merlin sounds more upfront and taller.  Overall size of soundstage seems to be pretty similar, just really a difference of proximity.  I think this can be attributed to the 1P2’s slight V and the Merlin’s mid centric signature.

In contrast the K3003 midrange and vocals came across sweeter to me, even aggressive.  I particularly find an aggressive midrange great for rock guitars and vocals in general.  For those that do not like that type of midrange and vocal presence, they may find the 1P2 laid back presentation to be more to their liking.

Treble is pretty interesting in that I find both the Merlin and 1P2 pretty laid back and non-fatiguing but yet they have a different tonality to them.  The Merlin treble is crisper, lighter and airier, whereas the 1P2 has a bit more weight and brassy tonality to it.  I prefer a brassy tonality and really wish the 1P2 had more treble presence, similar to the K3003.  The K3003 treble has awesome brassiness and is bold but never crossing the line to a piercing presence.  It’s my favorite aspect of the K3003. Perhaps you could call the 1P2 treble a compromise between the K3003 and Merlin.  I believe many would find the 1P2 treble very appealing.

I really find the 1P2 and K3003 to be very different from each other and not direct competitors in that one looking for the 1P2 sound really wouldn’t consider the K3003 and vice versa.  I see the K3003 more about finesse and precision and the 1P2 more about power, attitude and unadulterated fun.  Even though the signatures of the Merlin and 1P2 are quite different in the midrange, I find enough similarities that I could recommend the 1P2 to someone who is considering the Merlin but would rather have universal fit and not deal with the issues inherent with a full custom fit.
