I've listened to the difference between the original CLAS and DD and to me the original CLAS has a more agressive "bang smack in your face" kind of signature whilst the DD to be more mellow. This seems typical of AKM DACs though, even across different models. I haven't had a chance to compare the DD with the new CLAS -dB though (since both using AKM).

Since AnakChan mentions it here; I've got the Go DAP DD from Musica Accoustics right now and will be sending it off to the next person on the tour in a week or two. If your interested please PM me for the details.

Wait a sec......I own Sally!!!!! Hey hey heyyyy!!!! You two get away from my little lady.

As much as I hate to admit it I think I may have missed the boat with the CLAS. I've kept my eyes open for an original CLAS but so far no luck. I'm going to try and email ALO audio and see if maybe they have some old stock lying around. If not I may have to forget the CLAS and look into alternatives. Mellow sounding is quite cool but it's just not what I'm looking for.

You think they would do it considering I'm in the middle of the boondocks far away from everyone else?

Does the CLAS -R that Cypher Labs sell now still have the wolfson dac from the original clas? That might be an option...

Can't hurt to ask. Personally I can't see why not.

Gavin has received 1Plus2 and will ship it tomorrow. Next week just couldn't come any sooner.

Nope same chip as the db. The difference between the R and the db is the db can also be used as a DAC on a computer while the R is strictly iDevice

Looking forward to it :)

Caveat: Dimitri of MA and Gavin of Tralucent have been most responsive to my concerns and have been working diligently to address them accordingly....

I place my order last week and Voila!, 5 days later Canada Post is at my door...most excitements...!

700

Open box...no surprises here, everything well packed and in good order....

700

The items of fascination...

700

700

Nice 'n all, but i expected a bit more, actually alot more...no big deal, shiny packaging and display boxes have their place, but i'd rather pay for the actual product...

700

Quick shot of the 1plus2 burning in on the 160-d....

700

Initial impressions:

accessories/packaging: below average really....as i mention above, the IEMs, cable, stock bi-flange tips, and otterbox...

build quality: above average, they certain hand made customs, irregularities in acrylic finishing, rough edges, one nozzle screen out of alignment

fit: these things are big, huge in fact....not quite sure how i feel about this aspect...they're almost a cross between and headphone and IEM in a strange way....

they stick way out from my outer ear....almost like a couple of big BT receivers...Gavin recommend a shallow depth fit in the canal so i can't see these sitting any more flush...

isolation: i'll have to wait on this until i receive some proper tips and play around a bit...

first impressions, though are that they seem a bit leaky, perhaps due to the vent...how they are now, lots of ambient noise gets by...hopefully this will improve with better sealing...

sonics: they sounded bright, thin, closed in and in-coherent with the stock bi-flange...obviously i didn't not have a proper seal...

i scoured about and found some suitable tips, not ideal (Gavin is shipping me out several sets)....

i now have a decent seal which i think could be a fair bit better....

so how are they...?

pretty freaking amazing actually, even with only ~10hr on them they certainly are reminiscent of a high end full-size headphone...staging, imaging, timbre all top notch...the low end is a bit puffy and bloated and as noted elsewhere is bleeding upwards a bit, particularly on the 160-d....i a/b with my UM3x and there simply is no comparison....completely different level...like comparing the westone to stock apple earbud....the difference is just stupid....!!!

overall, a bit of a let down...but i'm still holding out hope that i can get the seal and fit dialed in and with that the corresponding improvements in presentation....

Thanks again to Dimitri and Gavin stepping up and being receptive to my concerns.....!!!

more to come....

btw: without knowing the serial numbers on the silver ones pictured a few pages back i cannot be sure but i'm fairly certain the ones shipped to me are the identical pair...

the go dap x sound very nice as well...tiny bit bass shy, however after several hours it started misbehaving with random static pops and clicks...probably a bad ground on the board....back it goes to JPN for warranty replacement

Interesting impressions. I think with burn in and some proper tips things should get better. Concerning the bass with usage on my 1Plus2s the bass significantly tightened up yet presence also increased without bleeding over into the mids. I've probably got well over 800 hours on my current pair. I'd say give them 250 hours of usage and see how that helps :).

5 days? So I will probably get mine on next Tuesday or Wednesday.

By the way, now long is the nozzle? I hope it's not long like Westone's bur rather short like Fitear 334 and IE80.

Edit: Ouch, so your pair is defective or just lack of brain burn-in and physical burn-in?
