Not to disrupt all the talk about cables, but my review of the 1Plus2 is finally finished. Hopefully, those who've been waiting for it will find it interesting.
I can say these things with definite emphasis:
- The 1Plus2 is an assertive earphone; it'll take the listener for a ride, much like Alice in Wonderland. It controls a narrative that is almost mystical.
- It has a U-shaped response, but can be thought of almost as an "ideal" U-shaped response. The soundstage is deep and wide, and separation is superb.
- Bass is the strongest selling point of the 1Plus2; it provides intense, visceral power that doesn't obfuscate details in the other parts of the audible spectrum. Sub-bass is the best I've heard in any IEM. Period.
- I wish the mids were more forward in the presentation space, though I'm a little conflicted. The mids are not forward because the 1Plus2 is tuned that way to give off the "performance hall" feeling, but it lacks the intimacy of other 'traditional' IEMs. I also wished it were a little more laid-back. It's almost as though I have to spend all my time fixated on the music when the 1Plus2 is playing!
I'm still sorting out a version of the review suitable for the custom chronicles retrospective thread, and that'll be its final resting place on head-fi, but the current version is up on CYMBACAVUM. That post is also populated with pretty pictures and cartoon excerpts.
