On the Ed8 thread, I mentioned I did a quick test between the Romeos and the SigDJ today. I really love the Romeo/Ed8 design (and used to own the Ed8LEs) but there's just something about the SigDJ sound that sounds more wholesome. I know I keep telling myself I'm satisfied with the M-100 as my closed isolating portable but there's still something about the SigDJ that keeps pulling me back there.

Hi Anak! So would you consider the Ed8 to _______ the Sig. DJ.
A)Sound similar
B)Better in some areas but lose out in others (SQ)----If so please specify, thx!
C)Lose out in all areas compared to (SQ)
Other can you phrase it better. :)
I just want a proper comparison Ed8 vs Sig Dj

My two cents: D) The Sig DJ is superior sonically in all areas with the exception of detail retrieval by a small margin (sorry if that doesn't fit grammatically in the blank).I actually prefer the smoother, yet detailed and lifelike, sound of the Sig DJ.

Hmmm.... and yet they are cheaper rite (MSRP), rite? Guess they were gearing for looks for the ed8 and practicality for the sig dj.
Now I juz gotta hope my local store will carry them or carry them soon. They are just right in my price range and looks decent (Not
great), feature glass (Not a positive point but juz an interesting use of materials) and supposedly sound better.
One downside i have come across is the high clamping force but this is very easily fixed with a prolong stretch.
Btw, is it easy to drive?

Personally I'd rather not say one loses out to another. To my ears, the SigDJ has a wider soundstage with it's shallow U-shaped signature. The bass on the SigDJ definitely extends deeper than the Ed8 but to my ears not super bassy as, say, the Denon D7100. It's more controlled. Somehow in today's test (and I'm not certain if I've noticed this before even when I owned the Ed8LE for 9 months 2 yrs back), I felt the Ed8 sounded somewhat digital-ish in comparison to the SigDJ. Maybe I was just hearing something weird but that's what I felt anyway.
Sadly I probably won't be able to do this test again at that shop anytime soon at least as I did spend 3 hrs there and left only buying a pair of Ortofon tips for someone else.

Hmmm.....
That sounds rather interesting. Because Craigster mentioned it sounds the ed8 sounds inferior. Well, the ed8 is more ex so if
it doesnt even sounds as good as the sig dj, there's really a problem there! I am able to try the ed8 out along with many many
other hps like the ed8 and lcd3 but my local store juz doesnt seem to carry the sig dj. All i can do now is hope! :)

Do note though, price doesn't really mean much more particularly to Ultrasone. Dare I mention the Ed10. I'm sure there will be a few Ed10 fans there but I personally wouldn't spend that much on those headphones. And rather obnoxiously I haven't bothered to test the other Ultrasone Pro & HiFi ranges too (I've heard them but pretty much just put them down quickly as I kinda know they're not suited to my sonic preferences), and I've only really focused more on the Ed8s a few years back and the Sig Pros/DJs in the past 8 months.
The SigPro/DJ's are just a tad more difficult to drive than the Ed8's. e.g. if I were to listen to the Ed8's at 60% vol of my iPhone 4S, then I'd probably be listening more like 75% on the SigPros/DJ's --- roughly.

Because according to CNET, the ed8 is easy to drive from an ipod, I know their reviews
are not exactly great but the audiphilliac knows what he is talking abt, recommending
the hd800 and ed8 and denon dxxx (old series) which are all great hps from reading many
reviews including Tyll's review of them. If i splash my dough on the ed8, i run out of juice for
any amp at all, and if my prediction for the price of the sig. dj is correct, i would have enough
cash for a 7N lod connector and a rsa sr-71a amp.

My SigPRO runs fine out of my European i.e. volume limited Ipod Classic. But as nearly any other headphone a good amp will better the sound at any time. I am right now too lazy to carry my home rig with me an so I am using the SigPRO right out of the Ipod 95 % of the time being.

I believe we are on the same page as I mentioned the Sig DJ sounds more natural. I would think natural is always preferred over "digital-ish".

I'm in! Craigster made another sale!

Any suggestions for an aftermarket cable for these? Not sure if the coiled cable will work for me...

Quote:I was actually looking for a 10 foot cable without the Coil... Is the coil fairly loose and easy to stretch out? I just don't want to forget it's there and accidentally yank my Amp off the workbench. That would be sad... and embarrassing.
