The Ultimate DIY Noobie

Hey guys,

 

My cat recently destroyed my cables on my ATh ESW9's. I have looked at the guide on how to rewire them, but I'm a little lost on how to solder the 3.5mm headphone jack. I understand the part about left and right, but the grounding portion has me lost, since the switchcraft plug i bought has no hole to solder. Do i just solder it straight to the ground metal?

 

Also not sure how to use a multimeter to determine whats what in terms of left right etc.

 

Any and all help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure about the multimeter part (I've been lucky to get by with bare wires, a battery and an LED light), but here is a similar post about soldering to Switchcraft plugs:
