I am not an expert and I have the L1 in the office now so I cannot compare them directly but the X1 headphones are a huge step forward for me compared to the L1s. Not just that they are much more comfortable (I can really wear them for hours) but I also feel that the sound is clearer, has more details and the stage is bigger. The L1s are great in the office with their semi-closed backs and the remote control cable but the X1s simply amaze me every time I use them. I want to listen to music all the time.  It's like having new ears.

I'm dying to audition these. If they sound as good as they look I'll be thoroughly impressed :)

Two days ago, after thoroughly reading this thread, I preordered the X1 on Amazon.it. Frenetically. I can't wait now. That "out of stock" status is a torture. :o

I hope they'll get new stocks soon.

Maybe sometime this century they will be available on North America and we will be able to.

Did they say something about EU availability, or Amazon.it stocks? :[ I bet no, but it is worth asking.

I dont think I will get any quick reply but check out their facebook page, they reply to question some what quickly. I can conform Australia X1 availability mid fed 2013. I assume EU might be quicker simply because EU, Holland and Ireland already is selling them.

The X1 is available in EU. smily_headphones1.gif
Head-fiers received already the first batch available on Amazon.it (myself included), so stay strong and have faith. biggrin.gif

I've seen plenty of X1 around here in Germany. You can pick them up in almost every big electronic store. But for 300, not 200 €.

Wow.. no one is interested in picking it up from me at usd$350?

I would, but I just spent a crapton on the SA-31 and ODAC... so...

Not to mention my incoming purchase of the Galaxy Note II... full price. frown.gif

Yes, actually that's why I'm more worried about Amazon.it availabiliy than EU availability. I asked the wrong question in my previous post. :p

Perhaps this is an issue ?? Certainly mine sound better with the Xcans than the SPL auditor.  Xcans I believe have a lower output impedance than the SPL's 9 ohms.

I have got rid of my recessed mids by changing the stock cable.which helps to balance the phones better.  However there is a small hump in the mid bass which I certainly find can get attention in a good way on some classic pop and rock tracks ( In my opinion more P.R.A.T. factor !!!!)

As I have said more than once in this thread, these phones are very revealing of source equipment and issues in the upstream equipment balance are under the microscope .  One thing is certain to me the transient response in the music is 2nd to none with these phones, sometimes almost electrostatic in nature. Also they have highlighted about half an hour warm up for the valve based equipment I use before music is in its best focus.

For me with the right cable change they are a great phone at a good price, certainly with some of the discounts that have been available in Europe recently.  I am waiting to receive the special manufacture Toxic*Cables lead which I do hope will be the final solution on X1 matching.  ( Unless I can get a Xcan V8 with 1 ohm source impedance cheaply!!!)

So I have been enjoying myself over the last week by listening to the X1 via a newly purchased  NOS Xcan V8 obtained from a UK dealer  at a reasonable price !!!  I changed the tubes straight away as the stock ones were not particularly good .  Wow what a difference in performance from the X1 with a low output impedance amp. Low end is still excellent but now is fully blended in with the rest of the sound spectrum , The recessed Mids and Highs are gone with the Silver Dragon V1 cable and I am listening to a great sounding set of Phones.  No colored midband as the Senn HD650's.  No lack of low frequencies as the AKG Q701  An excellent balanced and insightful sound quality.   They are revealing of source material and equipment so playing LP's can sometimes become difficult with surface noise between tracks, ( But they don't emphasis hiss)  No Sibilance unless its normally in the recording . Voices and instruments sound very natural and fine detail /ambience within recordings is very plain to hear.  They have a wide soundstage but not as 3d as the Beyer T1's.  However they sound more frontstage to the artist/recording than the T1's so you get a different picture of the music.  I am still waiting for the Toxiccable special lead to be made so I will not fully review against my T1's and Auditor combo ahead of the change however I have found the X1 and Xcan v8 to be a revelation ( With some tube rolling and cable mods of course !!!)  Word of warning as these cans can be played very loud without distortion you can get some hearing problems after !!!   Really please with the Purchase and so is my Son as I brought him a pair as well.

I thought I was buying a pair of reasonably priced phones for Computer Audio.  Little did I know that a month later and some additional purchases they would be fully resident in my main system as possible replacements for my Beyer T1 and Auditor combo!!!
