[New] Philips Fidelio X1 - Page 227

I got my X1 yesterday and they are great in many ways except for one big issue: driver matching. On my pair, both the bass and treble are noticeably louder on the left earcup. I'm going to try to get a replacement from Phillips, since I really do like everything about these except the driver matching.

Are they really better than say...HD600/580 ?

I haven't heard those, but I've owned the HD650s.  The X1 and HD650 are about on par with each other IMO.  Neither is really better than the other, it just depends on what you prefer.

In terms of pure technicalities HD650 is actually a little bit more detailed/refined than the X1, but I prefer the X1 as I find the HD650 a bit boring to listen to in comparison.  I also prefer the soundstage and comfort on the X1.

I think the Lyr would be WAY too poweful for the X1s.  It puts 6 watts into 32 ohms.

Yeah thats what I was worried about. I asked because if i end up picking up the new HiFiman's then I will also switch out to the Lyr. It would be my new all around amp.

What I'm thinking is since the max power output for the Lyr is 6 Watts into 32 ohms at max volume, then I guess all you'll need is to turn the volume knob a teeny-tiny bit and you'll be good to go lol

They sound fine off of the Lyr, a clean power source and the Lyr is a silent amp. I would not recommend maxing the volume pot.

My friend was listening to the HE-400 when I first got them and he cranked it all the way up, they handled it (albeit  a distorted mess) , I do not see the X1 surviving......

Personally I find the X1 best with R&B/Pop, Jazz, blues etc. I really like rock music (rolling stones, radiohead, oasis) but don't think it sounds that great on the X1.

I see... Too much bass?

Oasis doesn't sound good on anything sadly. :(  I really wish they recorded and mastered their music better.

No, it's not the bass. It's hard to describe why exactly, I'm still a novice in this hobby so maybe someone else could chime in on their opinion. The music I listen to is all lossless so the reason might either be due to poor mastering of the albums or that the X1 just doesn't play those songs to my taste.

I just find myself listening to other genres more because I feel they just sound much better. The acoustic rock songs I've heard through them sound great though.

Finally got to spend some extended time with the X1. Listened to Black Tar Prophecies I-III by Grails and I really like them both sound and comfort wise.
