[New] Philips Fidelio X1 - Page 219

I have a semi-interesting story about the X1.

My wife bought me a pair of these for Christmas, I showed signs of interest in adding them to my collection when they first came out and for some reason she liked the looks of them(they are sharp) whereas usually she could care the least  about my obsession (she once said the Lcd-2s were cute:blink:).

She ordered them from an external source on Amazon (open box). They came about on X-mas eve, I opened the box and low and behold this if what was what I found.

FujiX100s with a plethora of accessories.

I tried to contact the vendor to no avail.as of yet.

Not a very interesting story, but hey its a story!

I'll buy a brand new X1 and trade you for the Fuji X100.

I have to wait a bit since I did try to contact them,  I am not a camera guy(iPhone 5 is fine for my needs)  I will shoot you a PM if this does not become resolved. I see it goes for about 1k (much more with the kit it came with), is it any good?

Sending a PM. Don't think we need to turn the X1 thread into the camera thread. :p

How does it sound? ;)  You got a great deal there (great camera). I'd be surprised if the vendor doesn't get back to you!

Hmm.  Mids were one area where I thought the K712 beat the X1 fairly easily.  I found the mids to be a highlight on the K712, whereas they were more of a checked box on the X1.  Of course it's all subjective.  ;)

The other areas are pretty close between them, so I could see it going either way based on individual preference.

The X1 is darker, bassier, warmer, smoother, and is also bit blurry and grainy sounding.  The T90 is clear, detailed, airy, and open, with forward treble and a lot of instrument separation.  The overall balance on the T90 makes it sound a bit leaner, faster, and drier than the X1.

The T90 has better technicalities and is clearly more detailed and resolving, letting you pick out very fine details in the sound that the X1 is more likely blur together.  Even though the T90s soundstage isn't that different in size compared to the X1, the T90 has exceptional separation inside it's soundstage, making it very easy to hear where one instrument/sound ends and the other begins.  The X1 will roll them into each other a bit more.  T90 also has larger sounding instruments and taller sounding soundstage.

The X1 has a stronger bass presence (and more of a hump).  While the T90 is leaner in bass quantity it has better bass technicalities and speed.

The distinguishing trait on the T90 is its treble.  The T90's treble is very detailed and quite forward (not spikey, just forward), so much so that it often overshadows some of the rest of the headphone's qualities.   You sometimes get the sense that the T90's treble is trying to "show off" to you and is being a little annoying in the process.  It has tons of air compared to the X1.  The X1s treble is darker in general, but with the top rolled off a little more especially.

Always enjoy your excellent impressions chicolom!

I thinking of buying the X1 headphones. To use with my Cambridge 360A amp and Cambridge 650T Tuner. Do you think they will sound good, as my Epos epic 1 speakers

Anyone has issues with the slightly small-ish headband?

It doesn't fully sit on my head, because the headband is at its limits and pushes on my head quite a bit.

And I thought I had only a average sized head.

If they're keepers apart from that, you can bend the headband to create more room.

That's right. I use this way to let X1 to fit my big head.

The structure is very strong, don't worry to break it.

Very close to purchasing this headphone today to replace my PC360 but have a few questions before i pull the trigger.

So please help me out;

How is this headphone with the Matrix M-Stage which is my current amp and also is the Astro Mixamp enough to power these headphones? I will be using both.

I might also use it with a E17 for portable use,
Is this good enough?

Also, how much resistance does the V Moda Boom Pro cable have?

Thanks Head-Fiers

I received mine today from Amazon at £151 + a Fisual Flex Mini replacement cable (3.5mm both ends @3m length).

I also though the Sennheiser HD598 which was initially an upgrade to the HD595 I have had for years and I never knew about the X1 before last night when someone linked to them on another board. I was going to get the DT880 Pro 250 ohm instead and compare the 598 but the X1 stole the show given the Amazon deal price going on. Anyway the Fisual cable was £13 and came highly rated and rightly so, it's thinner than the stock cable but a higher quality cable with smaller terminations so easy to manage especially on a portable device. My NAD amp has 3.5mm headphone out and I hate using 6.5mm to 3.5 adapters.

I've returned the HD598 as the X1s beat them in music, games and video. Better soundstage, better bass detail and punch, nicer presentation of instruments around the vocals etc. All the stuff others have no doubt mentioned already. And then there's the build quality and design. Sennheiser feels like a toy by comparison even though both will last :p

Thank you! I decided to purchase them but will have to wait longer due to the holiday. I looked up the Fisual cable and it isnt available on amazon, i guess its only on amazon UK. Probably settle for pipeline or mediabridge.
