[New] Philips Fidelio X1 - Page 132

Definitely! I don't even have it and i know that.  Its being compared to the k702, dt880, and hd650, which are all total upgrades from the ad700.

They also have a different sound sig.  Th x1 has a lot more bass and less mids.

K702/DT 880/HD 650 class? The X1 has been compared favorably to the likes of the T1, Signature Pro, ATH-W3000ANV and even the mighty TH-900.

Those headphones all have their own set of flaws, as well as the X1. Technically the X1 doesn't match those higher end headphones with the exception of Ultrasone ;) Musically involving, the X1 does play up there if its pushing your buttons.

Hi,

Just got new X1. It certainly is completely different compared to AKG 271S. I am still summing my impressions. To much bass maybe? Do X1 need any time to burn in?

I can see someone preferring the X1 over others due to their tonal balance, as it doesn't have the over emphasis of treble the T1 may have, or the fact the X1's bass isn't typical of a neutrally toned headphone, etc. However, being on even ground with flagship level cans on a technical standpoint... no. The X1 sounds like mid fi. Thin instruments, slightly sloppy, one note bass (the main complaint), mids not having any clear emotion to them (they're happy just being there and not being good nor bad)... does not make them flagship level. I, myself, love the Annie and like them nearly as much as the LCD2, however, just because I like them that much doesn't mean they're on the same technical level. They compared quite well for my taste. That's it.

I love the X1, but I'll remain considerably more realistic in what they can do, so someone else reading my post won't take them as the coming of god in headphone form, like you make them sound to be. That will keep their expectations logically realistic. It's a great headphone, worth it's targeted price and fit for it's targeted demographic. Others will see that it isn't perfect and can be heavily improved to justify the cost of something like the T1 or even HE500.

I certainly don't hear the X1 the way it's describe above. But then again I believe in burn-in. This beautiful phone will open nicely with a really good burn in. Instruments are nowhere near thin. Oh well, the beauty of head-fi is varying opinions.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but on the official Philips website, the price was lowered to $299 which means the street price may be headed into the low $200s.

Thats a good price.  Pretty much how much I paid (converted to uk pounds) importing from italy.

So € 186 worth buying, since the price based on the amazon.com site is at € 267
