We are talking about volume Pot noise which is noisy regardless of gain when you turn it even with music playing. While at high gain and no music playing my T1 and DT235 has noticeable hiss while no music is playing. it's very faint in T1 but more noticeable on DT235. Med and low gain are quiet but it's a moot for 600 ohm headphone.

Again, no noise whatsoever on my m8, but when using the back switches or turning it on and off. Anyway I understand what you say when you feel the m8 a little anemic, I had the same feeling yesterday when I used my vali after a couple of days of m8, but the switches behind helped a little to adjust what I felt was missing.

Update from a Centrance employee that I got today in an email is that they have stock of XL4 and CMB M8s, but the RSA parts are about two weeks out. Hope that helps anyone with pending orders that are anxious like me.

I'd like to second the "no noise hiss" on my M8 with HD600 or HE-500, either using 1/4 or 4pin jack.  even on highest gain switch, and knob cranked.

only the slightest hiss with UM3X IEMs, and that's only when the volume knob is cranked.  a bit more hiss around 2 oclock maybe. only slightly higher when gain switch is on max, but again- not a playable situation.

While the mini-M8 looks to be a nice size reduction for IEM only folks, IMHO the M8 flexibility (power from low to high) and sound switches provide so much value and customizability.  not to mention it sounds great also, although yes of course would be nice if the DAC had DSD.  :-)

Anyone know what technology is used on the mini-M8 with respect to that "volume wheel" ?

hurm.  as much as CEntrance knobs have a bit of scratchy-ness over time - that wheel doesn't look to impressive.

+1, no appreciable noise from the 1/4" jack on my M8 using Yamaha EPH-100 IEMs. I'm not sure if those qualify as "super sensitive" or not, however none of my other on/over-ear 'phones have any noise issues with the M8 either, no matter the gain or impedance setting used.

Ya know its weird, I had the noise present with my JH13s but I got the IEM mod and it went away.  I was doing some testing and it seems to stay gone even if I go to higher gains.

I can imagine that high gain post mod is less power than low gain pre mod.  The only thing I can figure is that the cause of the noise must be the same component that is changed during the mod.

That being said, the volume pot still has a little noise time to time so it seems as that is separate.

Has anyone compared the M8 to the Resonessence Labs Concero HP?

Just received my Centrance Hi-Fi M8 and having a horrible time trying to get it to be recognized by windows 7 on my xps 17 and pc. It is being recognized as an unknown device by Windows so I don't think its a usb issue (have tried replacing them to no avail). With the universal driver, just shows no compatible units detected. Anyone have any ideas? (waiting on response from centrance support)

Have you downloaded and installed the drivers from centrance?  They have a driver you can fill out a form for, you get a install download link emailed to you.

Yes with the universal driver it shows no compatible units detected. After 3 reinstalls on both machines.

Something doesn't sound right here, if the M8 is turned on, working cable, driver installed, then it is a faulty unit or a problem with your usb chipset drivers, the fact you have the problem on 2 chipsets should help eliminate many of these.

Are any of these usb ports usb 3.0? I have seen this sort of problem on usb 3.0 ports

Not necessary, as the same thing happened to me this afternoon.  Guess what, my M8 was out of battery power.  Don't assume the USB port will keep the M8 charged, as it won't.
