The Centrance HiFi M8 thread - Page 32

Wow!  Just found this thread.  I'm a happy DACmini owner and would love to own an HiFi-M8 if it is available with a 4-pin XLR jack.

I recently rewired most of my reference phones (LCD-2 r1, LCD-2 r2, HD800, HD650, HD580) to 4-pin XLR after the purchase of a Bryston BHA-1 and Schiit Mjolnir.  The M8 would only make sense for me if it had a 4-pin XLR as I wouldn't want to mess with 3-pin to 4-pin adapters.  I hope the 4-pin version becomes a production version.

What a great company!

my question got posted on their blog yea!

i was amazed at their recent power supply post

i thought only thing you had to do was connect the wall plug, through some wire, to the dac then to the amp lol

They're going to have a 4 Pin production version. Sounds like there will basically be 4 options available.

I think a switch turning the amp section on/off should be great. Then the hifi-m8 can be used at home for its DAC section with a full sized amp

The LX has the same amp as the other versions, the only difference is it swaps the iDevice input for an optical input.

One thing about the hifi m8, the sound quality is suppose to be so good, that people who don't care to use it for idevices are interested. And some of those will be purchasing it based solely on how it sounds and will go for the version with the spdif input. I wonder how many people would buy either the fostex or clas if they didn't offer idevice connectivity?

Oh god. I see it now.

iPod Classic

HP-P1 Transport

HiFi M8 LX (via optical)

LCD 3

lol

For transportable use, the amp section is necessary. But the switch would allow you to buy a much larger amp and use at home only, with Dac input from hifi m8

Given that I've seen:

ipod classic
hp-p1
o2

that's not so far fetched unfortunately lol.

I've seen some rigs that also have Stepdance(2) + Energizer XP8000 battery pack.  That's a full fledged man-bag system right there.

Favorite is probably still the battery powered E9 stack.

I now have the new CLAS and it is miles ahead of HP-P1

One of my very-long-on-the-backburner plans is to build an active balanced ground (inspired by Meier's amps) battery powered M3 into a suitcase with room enough for dac and headphones of choice.

To Larry: Yes, we are actively researching the combo 3.5mm jack. We found several sources and a number of parts. Most come from suppliers in China and not all of those suppliers are well known (read: we don't know their reputation for quality and delivery). We need to get through these issues. Some parts are substandard per our exacting criteria (optical transmission speed being too low, for example), others are so wide physically that we can't fit them in the space available. Others yet are looking promising. We need to finalize this soon and make the right holes in the side panels. Once we choose the final part I'll make the announcement. Hopefully next week.
