The Centrance HiFi M8 thread - Page 297

Not enough power for HE-6 and I didn't like the pairing with AKG K812.Rest nearly perfect.

I like mine with the HE-6 (balanced from an RSA).

While not on par with my Pioneer SX-1250, it does admirably well for a portable and I would even say on par with many of the desktop set-ups I have heard at meets. One caveat is that the bass boost is a must.

I forgot about the power-sucking HE-6; given my treble-head tendencies, the HE-6's are fairly high on my wish list.

One more quick comment: I've noticed no difference between the single ended and balanced outs with my HD800. This is what I expected, but I still wonder if anyone else has reached the same conclusion.

My UERMs have outstanding synergy with the M8.  The Mad Dogs are a very good pairing as well, but the LCD-2's need considerably more juice.

Also, I really like to adjust bass to ++ when drive HD800 and T1, it's just a very smooth yet full bodied bump in very low region.

I'd agree - my HD800 via my balanced black dragon cable is smoother on the HiFi-M8 than the DACmini, with plenty of power.  I've never kept it a secret that the HD800 are very picky about the amp and DAC you choose, and few are optimal. But when you get a good match, watch out!

In that light, I still prefer using most of my other top tier headphones over the HD800 when I am using the DACmini and HiFi-M8.  Both seem equally suited with phones the HE-500, LCD-2, Denon D-7000, V-MODA M-100, Grado HF-2, and IEM; but the M8 holds an edge with the HD800 (recalled balanced, not stock cable).

However, feeding the HiFi-M8 into another amp for HD800, such as my EC ZDT, HiFiMan EF6, or even an F-35 Lightning portable is a fantastic combo.  I've fed the 4-pin out of the M8 into the F-35 balanced input and it's a step up when using the HD800 portable, and I've fed the 1/4" via custom ALO RCA interconnect into the ZDT and EF6 and got further improvements.

Note, another amp paired with the M8 isn't really needed with any my other phones, but HD800 do benefit a bit in terms of warmth and punch and for taming the HD800's slightly aggressive nature.

Really?

I guess this is an example of how we hear differently.

My LCD-2's sound as good from the M8 as they do out of the SX-1250 or the Sansui AU-717 and those have a great deal more "juice" than the M8.

The question was about not optimal pairing. My HE-6 is still quite good with the little Centrance amp, but my modded HE-5LE is the winner out of the Hifi M8.

Same here, I don't perceive any difference in SQ between "Single ended" and "Balanced". Perhaps if I make a very long headphone cable, then the balance setup will help. smily_headphones1.gif

Also if you need to tap the full 1.5 Watts of output power, then you need to go balanced.

Anybody pairing the Sennheiser HD600 or BeyerDynamic DT880 600 Ohm with their Hifi-M8 here? Please share your experience....thanks.

You just killed my dreams of balanced "bliss."

That's the worst GIF file I've ever seen!  Sorry Fatman, I'm no tree hugging PETA member, but that's bad.

Sorry if I've missed it here, but how does the sound signature compare to the CLAS Dac's?  Any opinions?
