The Centrance HiFi M8 thread - Page 266

I've read a few comments in the HIFI-M8 threads regarding using an iPod Touch 4G to avoid the lightning connector. If you feel this way, you might want to check my signature, wink, wink, nod, nod.

iPod Touch 4G and Lightning connector?

No, I've got a standard 4G for sale. There have been comments from some about not wanting to using use devices with lightning connectors. I think this just a cable availability preference. I'm just taking a cheap opportunity for self promotion here...

Sorry I misread your post. What issues are people stating they are having with the Lightning connector? I don't seem to have any issues with my iPad Retina and the M8.

I have no issues either with my 5s. I think it is more of a preference and cable availability issue.

I'll reiterate for Centrance' sake - my iPhone 5S with both the stock and a $3 FleaBay short USB to lightning cable work just fine. No issues at all.

Gotcha. Good luck with your listing. That's a good price for a 64GB Touch.

Good price!  Hard to go back after using the lightning connector though - never a wrong way to insert it.  After a while, I realized I had to fuss around with it less than the wireless charger for my Nexus 7.

I'm ecstatic about using a USB cable to charge the M8!  I don't use it often enough so knowing that I don't need the power adapter unless I want to charge an iDevice at the same time is terrific!

Just remember that, like others have said, you will deplete the battery faster than you will charge it when using USB.  USB is more for trickle charging the M8 overnight rather than something to be used while in use.

That's right. Even if you don't use the M8 while plugged in via USB and it's turned on, it will still discharge the battery slowly. USB just not have enough juice to feed M8.

I'm curious how healthy it is for the battery, to "trickle" charge it with USB, instead of using the included brick...

In general, trickle charging is great for batteries.  Fast charging tends to wear them out more quickly.  But always keeping batteries topped off on the charger isn't great either :)  There really isn't a best for rechargeable batteries - you will have to replace them all eventually.

I have now experienced that this fairly/super low weight and much more transportable wall charger works very well with the M8. Albeit the length of the cable can be a bit short (around 5--7 feet long), but the specs. pretty much matches up with the stock charger and in my experience also performs/charges very similar. Relatively cheap and just an info presented...

I just ordered one. I assume the plug fits the M8.

Thank you for test driving - and thanks to others who test drove a couple of the other options.  I think this has the highest Amps and Watts output of the wall warts I've seen though.  Cheers all!
