The question is whether you used ios7, and the cck kit, and passed audio to the m8's B port. iPad could do this before, but not iPhone and iPod touch.

The M8's i-device port normally receives digital from Apple devices. Of course this should continue to work on ios7. No news there.

Now of iPod or iPhone works with the cck passing audio into the B port that's something to shout about!

I only tried to with iPhone 5 running iOS 7 using the KERO lighting to usb and the Chinese made lightning to usb. Not usb B but usb A. I have an iPad 2 that I just installed iOS 7 and have the cck so I can give that a shot later.

I'm sorry I think I'm missing something here (no BS or gettin fresh):

The HiFi-M8 (XL4 w/ iDevice DAC) is designed as an iDevice DAC/Hphone amp,

so you just use the CEntrance 30-pin-to-USB (or others similar, I'm trying

the Moon Audio USB LOD for example, to see if I hear a difference) to connect iDevices.

Why are we wondering about using the CCK?  I use the CCK w/ my iPad on other devices,

but am a little confused here.

Are you trying to see if you can use an iPod or iPad into the computer DAC via the CCK on the optical edition??

Exactly.  If the LX M8 version with optical input works with certain iDevices running iOS 7 and the CCK when connected to the USB B port, it might fit better for some because of the increased flexibility.

gotcha!

For sure! As I have a friend who's also a reviewer, who wants the optical version but would love to figure out a way to get his iDevices workin' with it!

Any CCK pictures with the hifi-m8 yet?

In the past Apple have usually disallowed the use of cck in later patches. So do be mindful if you are thinking to move from idevice to lx versions. The future is uncertain.

Yes, you can.  Tried it today after checking in here with my iPhone 4S and it works fine.  IOS 7 allows the CCK to work on the phone as it does with the iPad.  Checked it with my Apex Glacier via mini USB and that worked as well.

OK OK but... how can we sure that 24/96 files are NOT Down-Sampled when "coming out" of the iPhone to the DAC ? We need to test with an external DAC that has LEDs to show the sampling rate of the incoming data !

(I have a Hifi-M8 on preorder and OI must decide soon if I change my order for a LX version... since Ialso have a AK100)

thanks

And...here is the mini battle of super portable amps, featuring Alo Audio, Fostex, Bottlehead and Centrance

Impressions are coming later....

Its not downsampled because with the HRT microStreamer, the 96 kHz LED lights up, as reported by someone in the uS thread.

The same should then be true with your ALO International

Just got my M8 & I must say, I am very very impressed by this little beast. With some talk of the centrance house sound being very neutral & potentially dry, I was really surprised to find such a musical, hi-end sounding unit. This truly is desktop sound (& good desktop sound at that)  in an all in one portable box. With my Modded, balanced D7000's, it was really quite spectacular. With a far more expensive fully balanced desktop system to compare it to, I wasn't expecting to be as impressed as I am.

With the multitude of features the m8 offers & with SQ & musicality at this level, I can't see anything noticeably surpassing it for quite a long time.

Amazing job Michael.

Have been reading this thread and am very interested in getting one for my AK120 + AKG K3003 iem and HD650.

Has anyone tried this (in 1ohm) setup with a very sensitive iem like the K3003i? would be very much appreciated if you could give me some  opinion on it.

Also, where did you guys get the short mini to optical lod to connect the AK120 to M8 from?

Thanks

Sys Concept. Jude mentioned this in his video IIRC.

I concur.

2012 and 2013 have been great so far for hifi.

The CEntrance HiFi-M8 is now 1 of 2 DAC/amps in my desktop rig, the other being an ALO Audio Pan Am.

I don't need anything else. They are absolutely stellar and are space-savers.

I initially used my M8 to drive the Beyer T1 (in balanced mode) when I first bought it. I had to set the M8 to high gain and volume to 3 o'clock to get to my descent listening volume. Then for a few tracks I have to set the volume all the way  to max level.

It made me think I really needed a desktop amp to bring out the full potential of the T1. I went on to try and audition 2 desktop amp. (Mjolnir & MusicFidelity M1) but to my surprise I can't seem to hear much difference compared to M8. (

It appears after barely a week of burning in the T1 it appears to have open up more and now I find the 3'oclock position too loud.

Now I only listen at 1:30 position and the SQ is noticeably better especially the bass, which is what I was looking for when I choose the T1 over the H800 (Price difference also another reason :) )
