I mean, you can't have a big engine supercar and still get the mileage of an economy car.

Very well put. HiFi-M8 is similar to a cross-over vehicle. It's almost as if it takes a little bit from cars and a little bit from trucks. It's neither AND it's both. It's a new product category, introduced to meet people's changing real-life needs. This is why people sometimes have a hard time comparing it to other products out there.

Well, the Tesla Model S is pretty darn fast and it's got even better gas mileage than the C7 :)

LOL that might work and Michael can call it the V12.  However, I think we are starting to see more DAC/AMP and DAP/Phone integration with screw on hard case.  The first is the V-MODA Metallo case for iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 with their VERZA, and now VentureCraft follows with their MM5 case for their line of DAC/AMP.  I do think there is an opportunity here for some kind of screw on case for the M8, especially with the iPod/iPhone oriented target audience.  A replacement for the rubber band is long over due for the portable rig setup.

p.s. still wish you success on the 24/96 front for the M8.

It just tells me how less powerful the CL amp must be.  The battery in the M8 is very big...

Michael isn't allowed to say that.

Very much so, and I might get one if I get bored with my GT-R... which is a POS in terms of interior and audio (Bose.)

Agreed.  I have heard great sounding .mp3 and not so good sounding FLAC. The recording does make a huge difference.  And who is to say that the "not so good" sounding recording is not what the artist was after?

You must have been listening to My Bloody Valentine.

Heck, all I want is a balance control.

Well that's what exactly Mr Goodman said several posts ago in here (just read the last a few pages of the thread). So not now, but in future, they will make it real. For more details and preorder and all, I think it is best to ask him.

I saw your post on the X5 thread about using your M8 with coax SPDIF input with your X5, and I think your expectations about what "near future" means needs recalibration. Michael literally parroted back what you wanted to hear, but his definition is not the same as yours. You and hoichi are late to the party on this ongoing conversation about adding coax SPDIF to the M8. This is what Michael said on the impressions thread:

So I think that your time frame and Michael's are just a wee bit out out synch, and that coax SPDIF input is not planned anytime soon, at least for this M8 release version, and maybe not the M8 product at all.

Unless of course somehow Michael has had a complete change of face after all your effective cajoling...    But I think that you're setting yourself up for a crashing disappointment.  In the near term.

Oh my.  Where to start?...  I think Michael should field this one.  Again.

Or jinbara002 needs to start reading back posts.

I wonder what the turnaround time would be if I were to send in my M8 for 24/96 upgrading.

I don't think I can live that long without it. :(

I have contacted TTVJ last week and was told they are receiving them in a few days. However, Michael Goodman have mentioned in his blog that they only ships 1-2 units( scarcity!) slowly to each dealer who pre-ordered first.

If you need to contact TTVJ, please contact them directly. Posting here isn't contacting them. There is no way of knowing if they read this thread.

Hmm... I've been considering maybe putting in an order for the HiFi-M8 to use mostly as a desktop/home (USB -> laptop/PC) DAC to replace my current EMU 0404 USB (w/ the AK4396 24/192 chip, interestingly the new Cypher Labs product(s) is also using this chip, albeit with much better implementation than on the 0404 USB), although I've had a bunch of questions about how it works and issues with the 24/96 upgrade firmware, shipping times, ASIO/PC drivers, etc.

Would it be best to order it from the CEntrance Store to get it the fastest? Are the non-LX models that are offered in the store and at some vendors like TTVJ/Moon Audio/HeadRoom w/ the chip that will allow future flashing for 24/96 iDevice compatibility (or will you still need to ship them in)? Is the "mod" that fixes the background hiss for sensitive IEMs available, and if it is, does it affect use with non-IEMs (I'm mostly asking in-case I decide on sensitive IEMs in the future)?

Also, what version would be the best to get if I wanted to use it with Ray Samuels-type amps? I've been considering either the XL4 or RSA versions, but I'd probably only use the 1/8 mini out -> my SR-71 until later if I decide to get an SR-71B... oh, and is the 1/8 mini out a "true line out" to an SR-71 or other amp (or what is the set-up for line-out to amp uses?) If I do get the RSA version and connect the RSA HiFi-M8 to an SR-71B in the future, would I have to use RSA/balanced terminated headphones with the SR-71B, or would the SR-71B's mini out be up to par? Is there any benefit to the XL4 version over the RSA version?

And finally, what is the realistic waiting-period currently for new orders on the HiFi-M8, and how are the ASIO and other drivers for PC? Thanks!
