If possible I would stay with iPod Classic for lower price tag + higher capacity. Also I don't like touchscreen in daps but that's personal happy_face1.gif Maybe Centrance will release another version with digital input, so I can pair it with incoming FiiO X5. That would solve all my questions.

Or, FiiO will reconsider adding an audio output to USB port on X5, that would also solve the problems.

If CEntrance adds coaxial input, you'll also have a choice of X3 and DX50. Both are cheaper.

I think I would stick with X5. Size is better than X3, double µ sd card slot and probably longer battery life can do the trick for me. DX50 is still a mystery. Indeed iBasso makes special products but for the moment there is a hype like hell so I am waiting for reviews. It can use USB OTG for more capacity but it will reduce the battery life significantly so I am not sure I would go for it.

Anyway either FiiO or Centrance can make our dreams true. Let's hope at least one of them make their move.

Let's hope both of them make their move at the same time and then feel awkward and then smile at each other and hug biggrin.gif

LOL. I really want this to become true. I am not a person who gets lots of stuff. I prefer having a few but good ones. So if X5 + M8 becomes true, I am all settled for portable rig. X5+M8> SE5 Way Reference.

Also I will use M8 at home too, apparently it sounds as good as desktop dacs. Then I will get something like HD800 to pair with it at home.

I did get excited when the DX50 was announced with USB to go, because it could have been implemented to include transport functionality.  But alas, Ibasso didn't...

I'm looking to buy Alpha Dogs first and foremost, that's why I need the output power of M8. But it's always great to know it would play nice with C/IEMs were I to try them.

At least you can lug some external storage with you. Every head-fier knows music enjoyment is in direct proportion to the height of your stack biggrin.gif

My ciem is SE5way reference, it is an end game ciem but it is not like 20ohm things. It has 133 ohm impedance and it scales up with proper feeding so that's why I am looking for M8.

Also I will use M8 at home with my computer and thinking about getting a high end can. Alpha Dogs are indeed interesting but maybe for home use I can think about something open back. HD800 type of reference can maybe.

WASAPI in foobar doesn't work with the M8? Or am I missing something?

I have the following error with all my flac files.

Unrecoverable playback error: Unsupported stream format: 96000 Hz / 24-bit / 2 channels

Unrecoverable playback error: Unsupported stream format: 44100 Hz / 24-bit / 2 channels

Edit: solved by using ASIO, but still wondering why WASAPI doesn't work.

For some reason my Gateway FX laptop running Windows 7 wouldn't recognize the HiFi-M8 when I first plugged it in to via USB, it wasn't until I installed the CEntrance Universal Driver that things got going. WASAPI works in both Foobar and JRiver but I've been using CEntrance's own ASIO driver.

The driver is required for Windows.

I'm using the Universal Driver from CEntrance but WASAPI is giving me errors. I'm gonna try a foobar with fresh settings.

Edit: It seems that it only plays in foobar-WASAPI if i choose a setting here that matches the sample rate being played.

So I can play lossless with IPC. It can be ALAC or WAV. There is a FLAC player app in the store but can it be installed on iPod Classic?

Also those ALAC and WAV, up to which bit rate/sample rate is supported?

I am digging so much because M8 is a game changer and I want to get one soon or late. I am trying to figure out which version. LX version needs DX100 (R10) or AK products. I am not fan of them. I like R10 but buying it in Europe is kind of gamble, I read many stories about device becoming a brick and I don't want to get into that trouble (Belgium-Japan shipping and all).

IHIFI960 on the other hand can't play 24/96 or 24/192.

Sorry for basic level questions but I have not touch any Apple products for so long and stopped following news about them, now I feel completely new to them.

I used my iPod Classic all weekend w/ my HiFi-M8.

NO problems!

Even converted a new newbies!!

So the "ASIO Hosts can change" has no effect?

Anyway, is there an audible difference between ASIO and WASAPI? Both supposed to be bit-perfect, after all.

Been there; done that.  Regarding the X5, posted 7/25/13:

But that's no longer true, now with the Sys.Concept custom FO cables, is it?
