Customer Questions, Five

Q: Do both devices only charge through just the same usb port, through to a USB port? Do they need an extra power adaptor?
A: Both HiFI-M8 and HiFi-M8 LX will charge through a USB port AND/OR through a supplied external power adapter.

If you are still unsure, you better decide soon.

Thanks for your emails everyone!
I will send out information by the end of the week.
There are only a couple pre-order spots left, so drop me a line soon!

It has a 3-position user selectable output impedance of 1, 2 and 10 ohms.  You will be able to set it for low output impedance of 1 and use with your IEM, using a small 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.  It also has a gain switch for low gain for IEM.

*What would the adapter for IEMs look like?

*I myself would have preferred usb charging, less bulk to carry.

From the blog link that was provided previously.

Ooh, that was a fast reply, thanks!

*I looked for the adapter (to use standard 3.5) on their site but couldnt find it. Thanks, doesnt look too over large.

(pic re-posted for other people wondering).

*Good to know usb charging is supported. Not sure how I would charge it without it having a mini usb port though?

Michael posted the link to the adapter image earlier the thread.

I'm not sure what you mean with your second question?

For the adaptor, only the 'Cross-textured' side will be protruding from the plug it's inserted to. So slightly less than 1cm.

It will be using the Type-B USB port. So you can just use the provided Type-B to Type A USB cable. Basically the same cable you use to connect to a 'computer' should charge the M8 while it's connected.

Ah, I see now.

Thanks for the clear information guys.

All my general concerns seem to be getting washed away.

I now have a query regarding charging.

Since it can be charged through USB, can the M8 be charged using a Type-B to Type A USB cable plugged into a common USB power adaptor like those used to charge iDevices? This will benefit travellers.

Which charges faster, USB->power adaptor, or with the supplied power adaptor?

Time for bed. Thanks all for answering my many questions.

I have sent my pre-order enquiry email with a preference for the:

- One 4-pin XLR + One x 1/4" jack

-the regular HiFi-M8, which is the Dual-Input USB/iDevice DAC.

_________________________________________________________

Additional questions:

1) what DAC will be in the hifi-m8 (wolfson, AKM etc)?

2)Will a lightning to usb short cable also be included?  (along with the already included 30 pin to usb cable).

3) Will you include an usb A/B cable? (probably wishful thinking).

kind regards
expatinjapan.

Hello.

Sorry for short answers - busy week.

- USB charging will be slower than adapter charging. USB provides .5 A current, while the supplied adapter provides over 2.5A -- much beefier than USB.

- The supplied USB cable will work to charge M8 from computers and those power adapters that have a USB A-style output jack.

- The supplied USB cable will likely be very similar to DACmini USB cable.

- We will use an AKM DAC. We are a third party design firm for AKM, have a great relationship with them and love their parts.

- Lightning cable won't be included at first. These are extremely new animal, so it will be awhile before we get them in.

the usb charging is good news

i need a dac/amp to pair with my computer, so theres no need for power plug

however, when plugging the usb into computer and playing music from computer>m8, will there be a way to disable usb charging (like the fiio e17) so the battery can run down, instead of contiuosly being charged all the time?

also note the retail price (not preorder) is $699

it was posted $799 but the 20% off math didnt work out and i emailed them

saved you all $100 biggrin.gif

and same price as the intruder!

I sent my email in yesterday.

Thinking about pairing a 4 pin Paradox with it. After hearing a pair in Dallas...that'd be a massive portable rig.

I just sent my email.  Any recommendations for a 4-pin XLR balanced cable for the Sennheiser HD-650 that's based on the stock cable?  I've tried the search function, but no luck.
