$500 Setup

What would the best setup be for $500 and this is including both the speakers and the TT. I dont know which to spend more on. Any ideas of which speakers and TT to get? I listen to folk, electronic, alt. rock, alternative, and rock. Thanks!

I'm a Thorens fanboy, but they're tough to find under $400, which wouldn't leave you much left for speakers. My second choice would be a Pioneer PL-518, which should be easy to find for under $200.

 

As for speakers, these sound very good for their price (and very good in general):

Do you already have a receiver or preamp/power amp that you can use?

I dont have a receiver or a preamp/power ampfrown.gif I have a FiiO E11 if that helps.

Hmm, $500 doesn't leave much room for speakers, a turntable, and a receiver...

Actually. I may have one. Let me look around. Yes I have a Yamaha RX-V420. Ever heard of it? Any good?

Should have enough power to get you started. Just make sure it has a built-in phono preamp. Otherwise, you'll have to buy one of those too.

Im not sure if it does. Will it say on the reciever its self? Because theres not much info on it on the internet.

Yes, there should be an input on the back labeled "Phono" if it does.

For that price range you really want to grab some vintage equipment off eBay or a local hifi forum
