Another mini -> RCA question

I was wondering if i could use this adapter

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D883

with good quality RCA- RCA cables. Would that be worse than using a mini-RCA cable?

The problem is that i cannot find a good quality mini jack here, but i can find really good quality premade RCA-RCA cables.

So would using this jack degrade the quality more than using a direct mini -RCA cable ?

thanks.

im in the same situation. Hm....im not really fond of adapters so im just buying a mini-RCA Zu pivot.

edit: be aware there are other solutions out there as well. Example, Kimber makes a mini-RCA one as well.

See link from Headroom: http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?...tID=0050160060

The problem with using that adapter is your putting a lot more more material with poor conductivity between your output signal. Most adaptors are gold plated brass, brass and gold are both poor conductors (something like 24% of the signal makes it through). So I'd definently get a Zu Pivot ($50-60 Ebay) or the Kimber Mini to RCA (Headroom $40), or simply make one yourself (2 gold plated nuetrics, 3 one foot runs of your choice of wire, solder, techflex and shrink tubing =$15-20)

You may want to look out for the IXOS 109 3.5mm >-- 2 x Phonos

It retails here in the UK for around £15. I got one from eBay recently and it's an excellent product. At 1m in length it's also long enough for pretty much all operations I would need it for.

You could of course DIY a cable that is suited to your needs. Apart from being a damn sight cheaper it would likely be better quality than an off the shelf one. Canare produce exceptionally good quality plugs and cables that would be ideal for your requirements. If your not too handy with a soldering iron then perhaps you could get a local member to make one up for you?

On the subject of adapters, I agree with Jodokast and highflying9. Stay clear of them where ever possible. For the most part they add unaceptable losses and put additional strain of plugs and connectors that could lead to problems later on.

if budget is a little big tight (like mine) i can recommend the straighwire from headroom for 25$ and my tech+link from meier-audio for about the same price. and dr. meier is a great guy to deal with.

I have done the following experiment:

I have a DIY RCA-RCA IC with the same RS adapter you mention,
making it an effective mini-RCA.
I have a DIY mini-RCA IC analagous to the RCA-RCA IC (same DIYer, same material, just the mini connector on one end is different).
Multiple A/B tests on my rig have not shown appreciable difference between the two to my ears.

Looking at the equipment in my sig, I do NOT have a high-end rig, and that may be why I can get away with using the RS adapter to switch hit the RCA-RCA to a mini-RCA, but, on my rig, I CAN.
Your Mileage May Vary.
