Compare what you like and can afford to your list of what Best Buy carries.

For lots of bass:  Sony MDR-XB700 at Best Buy.

are the beats solo hd really that bad?

tried them at best buy today and they seemed to have the best bass and sound quality out of all the headphones on display

i tried the klipsch 1, skullycandy aviator, and all the souls they had and beats destroyed them all

for the average non audiophile crowd, it tends to happen.. where the beats sounded way better... it is simply because the lack of experience on other higher quality headphones and mostly it is based on a slight comparison and listening session. The Solo, if you really listen to it has a very boomy bass, it is not really low bas, more of a mid bass muddiness that somehow creates the illusion of  "loads of bass". they lack of control, just straight up muddy mess.

the studio and the pro on the other hand are much better, but still too expensive. and those headphones that you compared solo with, aren't really the best sounding either.

for bass, go for Sony XB500, it has more bass than the XB700 or XB1000, it is kind of boomy, but the best at the price range.

and if you are willing to go at the similar price bracket as the solo, Audio Technica ATH Pro700mkII is a great option.

cheers,

Here's a vivid answer to your question--be sure to watch the video:

Again--check the buying guides I referenced in post #2 and the Inner Fidelity site linked (with the video).  If they aren't recommended on one or the other or both, you're probably about to waste a great deal of money on not so great sound.

Best Buy has a lot of good headphones available if you use their online store.  Now, their prices may not be all that good, but that is another thing entirely.

If your gift card is big enough to make it worthwhile, it might make sense to buy from them.  For example, the Audio Technica ATH Pro700mkII  mentioned earlier can be bought through the Best Buy site.  I didn't mention the Sony XB500 earlier because BB doesn't seem to carry them, and the XB700 was as close as I could get.

The M-Audio Q40 might work for you too.

Always buy what makes you happiest! It will make you .. happiest. If they do it for ya man, there isn't a thing wrong with that. Rock on.
