Should I upgrade my Senns HD 555 and if so what should I upgrade to?

I sold my Denon D2000 a while back and I kinda regret doing so. Sadly they stopped making them now. Reason I did was because it wasn't a drastic upgrade in sound quality from the HD 555 as I was expecting. Bass was legendary on the D2000 though.

 

I never could stand the Audio technica ATH M50 because they hurt my ear drums so bad. they were so harsh that I almost went deaf. Not to mention they were FLAT and DULL BORING. Nothing like my HD 555. So I don't want anything like a studio monitor again.

 

The Senns and Denons were magic for my ears and so perfect. I like their laid back tone.

 

So what do you guys think I might benefit from?

 

I however use a $25 Asus Xonar DG sound card on my PC to power it. Its not audiophile grade but its close I would say. Or atleast quite high end and sounds almost as good as my previous $150 ASUS sound card that didn't even have a headphone and. And the $25 xonar DG does have a head amp. I dunno if I should upgrade from this though. 
 

The sexiest headphones I ever seen in my life was that Denon D2000. Quality was so um I guess German even though it was not a German brand.

^ hmmm you sure about that? I kinda don't like how those look. Not as sexy as senns and Denons. 

 

What about those Ultrasone headphones? But I suppose sound quality is more important.

 

What about AKG?

Nice headphones (Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250-Ohm), but the Xonar DG can barely drive them.

Well I can upgrade the sound card to something else. Question though why is the DT990 cheaper than the 750?

 

and whats the cheapest amp/dac would you recommend for them thats on amazon?

On eBay they sell the Muse tube headphone amplifier for $50, it can plug into the line-out/headphone jack on the Xonar DG..

More then enough voltage for 250-ohm headphones.

 

Why the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm is cheaper then the Ultrasone Proline 750?

As the Proline 750 is only 40-Ohm it does not need an add-on amplifier to work well with something (advantage).

Beyerdynamic keeps the price low to keep market share?

Who really knows why?

Ok cool didn't know you could get tube amps so cheap wow.

 

Btw when I said 750 I meant the Beyer DT 750 is more expensive than the DT 990

The Beyer DT880 Pro 250-Ohm is a more balanced sound then the DT990, but the DT880 also costs more.

Currently listen to Will Smith-Miami with my DT880 Pros, sounds nice.

BTW between the Beyer 990 and the Denon D2000 which would you prefer?

 

Also the tube amp you told me about can it power a Denon D2000?

 

Cause even though the denons are 25 ohms they are WAAAAY harder to drive than my HD 555.

I believe the Denon AH-D2000 might come with a more quality bass then the DT990, the DT990 might have the better sound stage.

Low cost tube amplifiers are not recommended for low Ohm headphones like the AH-D2000 (25-Ohm).
