Moon Silver Dragon and HD650

OK, I'm curious - where is the feedback? (When) IS (IYHO) the Silver Dragon preferrable to Zu Mobius?

Is the Silver Dragon compelling enough to move to the 650 from 600?

I posted a thread that ended up being a discussion about the merits of the Silver Dragon versus the Zu Mobius. You can search for it, it has over 40 replies. I would also like the Silver Dragon owners to speak up more... although there really aren't that many of them. Drew over at Moon Audio has told me that the first batch was almost a sort of test run, and that the second batch isn't going to be out for at least 6 weeks or so.

I would have already purchased the Zu if it hadn't been for the hints of accolades, coming from such greats as Tuberoller and of course Jude himself. I'm still sitting on the fence, waiting for more people to chime in their (experienced) opinions.

I'm interested too. I think the HD650 itself fixes most of the issues people had with the 600 so there really isnt much of a need for a better cable than the cardas, but hey who knows. Mids seem perfect, almost a bit thick on 650s. Bass is great, deep, and very visceral. The highs are something else, representing timbre of instruments a lot better than the 600s, which sound a bit thin in comparison and lack a natural tonal balance (but not compared to other headphones, the 600 still beats everything else). I dont know what a cable upgrade would do, add more detail? Would this detail give it an "overhyped" sound like electrostatics (yes, I've heard the orpheus) or some more aggressive dynamic phones have? I think my ears have reached a limit with the HD650s, and I've yet to hear an audiophile recording that doesnt get chewed up by a class A setup, no joke here.

Better recordings, or a better source/amp would do ten to a hundred times more good i think. Thats not to say the cardas or equinox cables arent good upgrades, its just that i hear a bigger difference from other things being improved.

Cheers,

I agree. Maybe not a hundred times more ... but the difference is definitely a lot greater and noticable.

I think the 650s are compelling enough to make the move with or without an upgrade cable.

ive been also waiting for more reviews or comparison between the zu and the silver dragon. i remember reading tuberoller's review but it kind of got me confused since the zu sounded like something i would like more but from tuberoller's description the silver dragon sounded like the way to go. can someone shine some insight what the main difference between the two cables? maybe tuberoller... if ur reading this. When it comes down to it i think its based on preference just like the equinox and the cardas but im still pretty confused about the silver dragon and the zu cuz i dont know the advantages that one has over the other. heeeelp... i wanna spend my money. lol.
