You've clearly never heard the very disappointing HE90s, I take it?
You've clearly never heard the very disappointing HE90s, I take it?
Not a universal sentiment, bang for buck or otherwise. I do think the HEV90 is not up to par, even with the greatest tubes, but the HE90 is still the best phone I have heard, even through the HEV.
Different strokes, and everyone that has NOT heard them definitely should... then decide for yourself.
But let's be clear - there is NO indication that a new product is being made, nor that the old is being reissued.
you think Kevin and Spritzer are trolling us?
^Everyone respects confidentiality but is <very> hopeful something will be seen this year?
With delays to the new Senn amps, delays to any new 'stats should be expected?
Blink once for no, twice for yes.
They are far from disappointing on my properly tubed Aristaeus. I wish people could give up the love affair with the HEV90, it just isn't that great.
I was under the impression that the Aristaeus was based on the HEV90.
Also if I'm not mistaken Sennheiser went through a few different iterations of the HEV90, with some being better than others.
There are three very different versions of the HEV90 in circulation and the Aristaeus is based on the best one. The other two are quite poor indeed...
I no longer read HC, so I would have no idea what you are referring to.
Not on HC. This whole thread came out of something KG/Spritzer said on HF:
KG: (8/10/12)
At RMAF you should be able to listen to the woo audio (2 of them), BHSE,LL,A10 the new sennheiser electrostatic amp (did i say that?),
Electra, and a few more i can't remember.
Spritzer: (8/10/12)
I can confirm that Sennheiser is working on a new electrostatic headphone and there are already a few prototypes in existence. I'm not at liberty to discuss it further though.
I don't remember where the CES thing came from, may have been KG too though.
I remember the proto discussion, and some vague "maybe CES" referelce, but that is quite a stretch to confirmed CES rollout. This is what Senn shows today:

Thank you Spritzer for clearing that up, I don't think I've heard a great sounding one then. I thought it was just the tubes, Gary.
Their showing off the Orpheus is interesting IMO. Could make for a good lead up to an announcement for new 'stats. At the very least it could be construed by a more active imagination as something of a knowing smile.
It makes no sense to make a press announcement from a product wich is build 1991 with only 300 units if they don't show something wich is related to it.
Everybody is already aware of this old product who is interested to see it hundred times again
If the new Senn stats headphones look similar to the HE90 + HE60 but at a reasonable price, [ when it comes to cost I'm only thinking of the HE90 ] I think they should sell quite a lot. I've never heard either but they're both beautiful, especially the HE90.
