[REVIEW] Heir Audio 4.Ai: Could We Have Perfection? - Page 12

You said that the highs felt a bit uncontrolled and that the mids sounded dry on the cowon j3. Would a change in EQ fix this?

I found these things try when comparing to dedicated amps and DACs etc. this was me being very picky and it is not a problem or will you find the highs uncontrolled, it was more they are more controlled on other devices. These sound awesome with J3 still, in fact this is what the wizard uses!

Ah, I see. By the way, do you have the magnus 1 cable with your 4ai's? If you do, do they make an audible difference in the sound sig?

I do not unfortunately. Other people have said it is mainly more usable with the slightest audible differences that they have sound to pinpoint.

So overall, if I were to listen extensively to rock and classical would these beat out the Westone 4's? I'm trying to choose between the 4ai's, Ue900's and W4's

These sound great with rock and are made for classical. I have not heard either of the other 2 but everyone has said these to be better than the W4. The UE900 seems more made for mainstream music from what headfonia said in their review as did Joker. I think Heir are a solid choice!

I would honestly wait until someone has all three of these in their hands before making a choice.  Otherwise, the decision will be a blind one with this review comparing to these other reviews (that don't really compare to each other) with an end result (maybe) being going this way.  From everything I've read about the 4.Ai, they have a very similar signature to the UE900.  That's all I can say about them though, I'm sure the 4.Ai are great IEMs, but at the end of the day, I can't tell you which is better for what...  And neither can anyone else really.  Quality goes further than just the signature, it's something that has to be accessed in person or direct comparison (indirect leaves way too many loops, holes, and errors in between).

I have seen both of there FR graphs and the 900 seems to be a lot bassier from this and the reviews i have read, no one really as said they are that similar from what i have read. I will get a 900 soon, just waiting on UE PR to get them in stock.

There is always some sort of error when reading an FR graph blindly (EG, not knowing specifically what an IEM actually sounds like in person).  You can infer signature types, and maybe some  traits, but never all.  I honestly have never seen it done where a person could read a graph blindly and come out with > 80% correct readings.  They always miss out on something, and that single something can snowball into larger problems.  This is the reason that I don't judge any headphone based on the graph.  There are many times that it shows one thing, but then sounds completely the other way.

IMO, I don't believe we know enough about what the graph tells us to give a full description (subjective description) about something.  Even Inks made the mistake of saying the graph for the 900 looked horrid (from every angle) when everyone who heard it (with a proper fit) said it wasn't (even the person who made the graph).

With all this said, wait until you get your hands on something before you make any decisions on how it will sound.  No the UE900s aren't perfect, they do make mistakes, but pre-disposing yourself to a negative bias already leads you down the path to have a bigger chance at a negatively biased review.

Out of curiosity though, where'd you get a raw graph for the 4.Ai?  Cause the thing only looks bassy with compensation applied (which I feel many compensated graphs are off).  When comparing graphs, never, ever compare compensated graphs to other compensated graphs or even compensated graphs to raws.  Only compare raw to raw.  And if you read Rin's full reading regarding the 900s, you'll see that even the raws can lie.  Look at part 3...

Well, is there any way for me to be able to listen to all three? o.o I'm assuming I can't just buy and refund each one, can I?

Feel like I need to upgrade my iPod Video to truly do my 4.Ai's justice. What would you guys advise?

Guessing the DX100 would sound stunning with them, but how do the Rocoo-BA or Colorfly C3 sound with them?

It is likely there is better but it is a starting point and will still sound great! The DX1000 is said by Sorensiim to sound great with these but one user said his Clip + sounds better than his Rocco BA.

You'd have to contact sellers and see if you can.  If you can find one seller who is selling all three, they may allow you to do it (remember, most sellers are people too!).  Each one has different terms on what they'll expect from you.  Please be aware that you do have to tell them you are going to buy one of them that they send you (EG, you're set one 1 of 3, you will purchase one).  Then they'll either say no, or offer you a deal (cause they basically just locked in a sale).  Deals generally differ from seller to seller.  I know one person right now that has the W4 and PFE232 in his possension right now and has to return one.  IDK how things were done from the monetary standpoint though.

So my advice is to find a seller who sells all three and ask.  Make sure they are an authorized reseller as well, or you'll get no warranty.

My rockboxed Clip Zip sounds great. You could also just look into a portable amp to pair with your ipod...

I see...but the thing is, I'd think that it would be really difficult to find an authorized dealer that sells all three.
