Totally goofy question about 2-channel, PLII, and DD 5.1 bass

Are DD 5.1 and/or DTS movie tracks generally designed to have lower and louder bass than a 2-channel mix for, say, a television program or a Dolby Surround 2-channel mix? If so, then should I usually expect Pro Logic II to have wimpier bass than DD/DTS, since it's processing what was originally a 2-channel mix?

You got it right. Dolby 5.1 one includes a LFE to your subwoofer. Dolby II movie and music processing does not have a .1 or LFE channel. The best way to get Bass out of a two channel mix or Dolby 2.0 is to wire your subwoofer either by line level inputs, or by speaker level outputs. Either way, you can still hook up your LFE to your sub. It wont hurt anything. By using line level inputs or speaker level inputs you will be basically inputing the bass to the sub. Most lowe cost A/V recievers usually only have a LFE jack, not line level, so if this is the case, use speaker level input.
This link might help: http://www.polkaudio.com/home/faqad/...cle=bassmanage

It gives some good info on subwoofer hookups

Hope this helps.
