Heir Audio 4.Ai - Appreciation/Impression/Review Thread - Page 66

Finished tip rolling, sticking with medium red tip that came with it. Most comfortable. No vacuum nonsense.

I have been surely enjoying my 4.Ai's.....But...but what's wrong with me? I am itching to try the 3.Ai's to see how they compare. It might be nice to have the bassier "fun" one for hard rock and electronic music. You are all evil if you don't talk me out of it.

It's always good to have variety available to you. :D

LOL....good...

I'm kind of torn here. If course I've read though a bunch of the posts comparing the 4.Ai and the 3.Ai.
I like the 4.Ai a lot but would like to try the 3.Ai as well. Could anybody who has spent some time with both chime in and let me know how they like having both. Like if you have the 4.Ai is it still worth it to get the 3? Are they REALLY different enough to warrant owning both.

maybe someone could help me with an estimation. Say, for example, on clip zip with Rockbox-- while listening to the 4.Ai how many db bass boost would give an estimation of what the 3.Ai souls like. If that's even possible
Thanks

I think the design looks great, and I plan to try one of the universal IEMs soon

the 3.Ai is a warmer and not as clinical with recordings... the bass goes deeper with my WM-Z (I have to +2 bass if I want the same depth from the 4.Ai), I actually prefer the 3.Ai on older recordings as it seems to suit the SQ better.

is it worth owning both?... if you have a fair amount of albums (like I do)... then the answer is a definitive yes.

both are top-notch IEM's... though some seem to be dismissing the 3.Ai out of hand compared to the 4.Ai, which is unfair imho because it's a damn fine IEM in its own right and really shouldn't be compared to it $100+ big-brother.

hope that helps.

ps... I'll put my 4.Ai's away for a day and give the 3.Ai's a proper run-out, something I've been meaning to do since they arrived but the 4.Ai's are limelight-huggers so it has been put on the back-burner so to speak... I'm having a little go with Robert Miles - Dreamland album, plussed the bass to the WM-Z's max, scared the crap out of me once or twice with it's depth (almost had a visit from the turtle's head)... don't know how you define a bass-head but my brain is receiving bucket-loads of the stuff... tongue_smile.gif

Thanks for the reply...I do have quite a large collection, over 11,000 tracks, of many varied genres. Many are perfect with the 4's ..Some electronic or classic rock could use a bit more ooomph. So I could see the advantage. Any other opinions?

some pretty good reviews here on the 3.Ai... can't say I disagree with much what's said...

I'm interested in this as well. I was hoping for an IEM that would handle electronic/upbeat genres really well so I'd have a good compliment to my ER4. So if the 3.Ai isn't merely a downgrade to the 4.Ai and actually has a more fun sound signature, maybe I'll pick them up to, or keep my Etys and buy the 3.Ai.

Well my 4.ai were shipped this week. I'm very much looking forward to receiving them. However, I think they've joined the "Heir Audio World Tour" thread judging by the UPS tracking info. Castle Donnington is my nearest airport - 20 miles away!

Anyone else experienced this? Is this normal for UPS?

Thanks

No. Not without a detour via Mars or Jupiter.

No. That's very unusual. It should have gone back to Germany first biggrin.gif

they'll be with you by Wednesday at the latest, delivery takes five-days... luckily for you they'll arrive at Castle Donnington, mine did... to stop any delays, look-out for when they clear 'customs' as you can then pay the excess by phoning UPS.
