I own both too... your description of the 3.Ai is a tad unfair in my book, the way you describe them makes it sound like a terrible IEM which is far from the truth... ever thought your iPhone may be the weak link... if your source is crap you're not going to improve things a whole lot by buying decent headphones.

If I may weigh in.

The thing is, the 3.Ai could be considered a "let down" when compared to it's more superior cousins, but wouldn't one expect that?

Would one expect a BMW 318 to be equivalent to a M3?  Different price points = different performance levels, and I think that concept holds true across most things in life.

If the 3.Ai could perform as well as the 4.Ai there would be no need for the 4.Ai.  Hence the reason/need for a "product line."

Beyond that there have been some that said the 3.Ai satisfies their needs as well....

It seems the comment is in regards to the Freq. shape of the 3.Ai.  It is no secret, the 3.Ai has a V shape response....  so essentially the comment is only a verification....  the 3.Ai, has a V shape response....    Viola, mission accomplished

OK Guy correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you use a Sony DAP as a source? That will be an even weaker link, since its high OI. The IP4 is the best sounding smartphone there is, correct me if in wrong again but I think you really dislike Apple based on your comments in the Sony Z thread. Apples recent sound engineers are competent, things got good since the 3GS, the earpods are also a statement to that. The IP5 was a step down, but I figure they had to make compromises, I tell it like is. Sony needs to work on their OI it creates uneven response at times but maybe the Heir IEMs like resistance, I'll be able to test this soon.

I use the IP4 because its a reflection of the future, more and more users are going to be smartphones, specially once more good sounding ones get released. Because of this, I do suggest a cable with controls to Heir Audio. I can use a O2 if I want but amping is silly IMO, if one intends the IEM for portable use.

The 3ai is better than sub flagships like the W3 and and SM2, but I wish it had the finesse of the TF10. I went into it expecting the v-shape but expected/hoped for more refinement than I heard. These are just first impression so well see what's the conclusion for me given time.

I personally own a iPhone 4 but I still think it is silly as a source. The 4.Ai obviously sounds good from it but it is not close to its potential. I think although you say the O2 is not portable so there is no point using it, you can get portable that sound as good or better. My iPod Nano 3G and Hipp cricri are so much better at playing the same files as the iPhone 4 it's crazy, and the cricri is only £45 and tiny, I would reccomend one but the EFI from your phone will shut it down.

Then you have a true dedicated portable player like Tera Player and we are really talking. I love apple but they are not close to making a audiophile level source and the 5 is mean to sound worse.

As for your comments on the two IEMs I had no problems.

The I-phone might be the future for the masses.....

But I hope the Ibasso DX 100 and products like it are the future for the audio enthusiasts/purist.

"Oh Please Cowon.....  Please Cowon build a product for the purist at heart."

I amp from time to time because I want to maximize SQ, but from time to time I want to maximize portability as well.

Always a give and take....

Yes I want to see something Top Shelf... off the charts level.... They may have to as tablets and smart phones are becomming more and more prevalent, eating away at their market share.  They may have to decide to take the gloves off....

Guys, I don't use one but the ip4 is a plenty good enough source and FullCircle, you're hurting yourself by implying otherwise. There's always something better but the ip4 is a fine enough player to get the picture. I don't always agree with INKS as we all don't with one another from time to time but this sort of discrediting is over the top. This was not even a measurement comment but his sonic impression. God, I hope we don't all have to go out and buy dx100s to enjoy a frequency taylored IEM. In fact, I'd think the 3ai was sculpted for a different segment. Perhaps INKS chose the wrong model to evaluate considering his needs but that certainly doesn't devalue his comments.

I don't think we need this disclaimer:  Don't buy Heir Audio if you use an Iphone. wink_face.gif Silly.

He never said that it was not a good enough source? Anyways, enough source discussion it looks like the forming of an argument (i hope not but cant be to careful). Back to the 4.Ais me thinks.
