Keep up with this blog as I may go over to Rin's place so he can measure them once I have them. I will also post impressions before my final review.

Oh thats awesome!
Look forward to impressions and i would love it if you go over to rins place so that they can me measured, i want to see how flat they really are and how much they actually have a bass boost which i have accepted now but this allows my ears to perceive it has perfectly neutral.

I 'll have to confess I am slightly disappointed by the wood on my 4A.i.
It looks quite plain and uniform, I even wondered if it was real wood. The iem still look better than most but my wood is not as good looking as others people's wood
@zloy loup,
Yours look soooo pretty. I am very jealous
The wood on my left one is quite boring and 2d, but i like it as it contrasts with the wood on the right as that one is very 'burly' and 3d.
We all have different ideas of what neutral means but for me it sounds like it from bass to mids but treble is slighlty north of neutral and might be an issue with some people. Overall I thinks it is quite bright or lit up as an iem, but that also what makes them sound so clear and revealing.
Don't get me wrong, the wood looks yaw-droppingly beautiful but if I could choose between carbon and wood, I'd go with carbon.
Come to think of it... The organic sound of the Ai's goes better with wood. Maybe clear shells with ebony face plates? Aw man, now I want more customs! Anybody need a kidney?
All that aside, the difference in cost per kilo of the raw materials has little to do with the final price. Manufacturing and stocking different versions is what adds up.

Whats another kidney, its not like my other 4 are doing anything!

Unfortunately, that's how it is with wood. When I got my Denon D7000's a while back, the wood on the cups were incredibly beautiful, and I almost didn't want to sell them, because I doubt I'd get wood like that ever again. lol.
Truth be known I don't even know for sure how the wood will turn out until the lacquer is applied... and when it is applied it is always a surprise. Some are like "Sha Zam" and some are like.... that is pretty cool.
But at the end of the day, it is 100% real wood.
Wizard
The ones with the Jesus statuette? Those aren't mine, haha.
Yeah hearing this makes me happy, because I've had people tell me the IE80's sounded clear to them and I'm honestly just baffled by a statement like that. I listen to mostly metal, progressive, death, etc and I prefer clarity and depth over a muddy and "fun" sound or whatever.
Plus these things look awesome with the wood and all.
