Heir Audio 4.Ai - Appreciation/Impression/Review Thread - Page 33

Hmmm..... He says the 3.Ai and 4.Ai are very close (no on here says that)... And that the Phonak 232 have more clarity while I think there dip in the mids prevents that while I could likely say that the phonak have a ticker more full sound. I prefer the 4.Ai of the two but could understand some one preferring the bassier v shaped phonak.

Clarity, as he sees it (based on his reviews), is a bump in the higher mids/lower highs.  That said, the dip in the mids with the 232 is in the lower mids.  I can't comment on being clearer though.  The 232 has better instrumental clarity, the 3.Ai has better vocal energy.

I have not tried the 3.Ai but in the review he was comparing the 4.Ai and the 232 in which I have tries both. The 4.Ai has more vocal energy and instrumental clarity not that the 232 had bad Instrumental clarity by a long shot (second best in a IEM I have ever heard).

Check out my round up as I have added it their! (in sig)

The 3.Ai and 4.Ai do NOT sound similar in any way. They LOOK the same but they sure as heck don't sound the same. Looks like Mr. Guttenberg skipped a bit of his review...

Well, I was thinking about your review/comparison of the two when I read his thoughts, and that was also my conclusion about his review...

That's shameful of him to end the review by claiming they are the same - that guy is a big-time slacker.

agreed. you can tell that both are from the same family, but they don sound the same.

he missed out the fact that 3Ai have a bassier and more upfront presentation compared to the 4Ai.

I never take Guttenberg 'reviews' seriously. He often writes things that are either questionable, or just completely wrong. I don't get it; he has considerable stature in this hobby, and yet he still has absolutely no idea what he's talking about, at least with regard to head-fi. I don't know too much about speakers, but he seems to be a little better in that area.

I'm not really sure how we can help your bank confirm the payment?

Well, I guess he as a name and reputation, but I have to agree with you. Almost everything I've read from him about headphones or IEM's seem to be a bit off and from someone who isn't that much into HF. And this latest review, mainly regarding the 3.Ai part, is a clear example of this...

I think while he misses out on describing the differences between 3Ai / 4Ai which looked like a very abrupt ending to something that should of continued.

CNET is for your everyday average reader not Head-fi people. So many of them are lucky to even understand the world 'clarity'. What you've got there in that review is a simplicated broken down version for everyday consumers. if he was to bust out with words like imaging, separation or soundstage people wouldn't understand wtf he was talking about. So, he's just ran over the basics. To us who understand the lingo it seems like there wasn't much effort put in. He did go into brief detail about the bass which is.....what everyday consumers want to hear.

People who actually read TheAudiophiliac are not the everyday average reader. The average everyday reader watches videos that CNET staff like Jasmine France (well, not anymore, but you get the point) put out.

For people to come across TheAudiophiliac, they need to at least have a passing interest in hi-fi, and thus, it should be held to a higher standard, as interested parties should be subjected to higher quality information.

How did you start in head-fi? You must've wanted to learn more about some random product that you were looking to buy, googled it, saw a million head-fi links discussing it, and then eventually joined the diaspora. The same goes for TheAudiophiliac; it should only show up if you search for a hi-fi product, unless these are dedicated CNET readers that read absolutely every single blog they put out.
