Heir Audio 4.Ai - Appreciation/Impression/Review Thread - Page 4

Id be interested to know how these fair against the Fischer Amps FA-3e. They are a custom universal type - sort of like the ASG 1's from a form point of view I guess. Very ergonomic, and with a triple BA configuration. And they look like this:

Swimsonny - not intending to hijack this thread, so let me know if you want the pic deleted. Just posting cause there dont seem to be too many universal customs about, so interested in how they compare to one another. Im not ready to take the full custom leap just yet.

So would i actually. I was going to say it to you as i saw you post a pic of these on the portable rig thread and actually done a bit of research. They do a two driver version as well. Being a fan of universal customs these instantly intrigued me and although it would take a lot for them to take on the Heir's i will not judge from this unknown company. The ergonomics are the best thing about this concepts and the Heir get it spot on. Did you see the pictures of these in my ear in the OP.

If your going to the cambridge head fi meet we can A/B them!!! That will be awesome!

Oh and do not worry, your post is welcome. Their are not a lot around and i want to try as many as possible ;)

The Fit-ear is the other one i have not tried. This Heir is a beat though!

Cant make it to the UK headfi meet sadly. Would have been great to try out the 4.Ai. Damn it!

The ergonomics of the FA-3e are great too. The most comfortable and best isolating IEM's I have tried so far. The sound great to me - though my experience is a little limited. I did not get on at all well with the ASG 1's. Could not gel with their sig, plus the bump on the back really made my ears sore! Looks like you got a tunnel in there? Mine are at 16mm at the moment ;D

I would deeply love to try the Fit Ear, but in reality, its never going to happen :C

Oh that is a shame. That really would have been a great a/b of the two.

Yes, the bump i mentioned in the comparison of the two and luckily it does not cause me any pain at all, however the smooth design of the Heirs should suit everyone, it really is universal. I understand why people did not enjoy the ASG-1 as it had such as huge mid peak and i just happened to always agree with it. The sound of the Heir though will not have this problem as it is peakless and just great sounding, their is nothing that you will not agree with... unless your a huge basshead in which the question, were is the bass? may be asked. But you would have to be an extreme bass head to say that.

Oh yes, its just a 6mm at the moment, been their since i was 11 and got to 10mm a couple of years back but done it in a dirty market in india and it did nit end well, its hard to stretch more with my swimming you see as i wear a swim hat. Will do it this summer break actually thinking of it! (sorry guys for the off topic rant)

As for the Fit-Ear i will never own it but hopefully demo someones one day.

26dB is rather unclear as to what that is

The research shows Comply style tips are the best, followed by silicone, hard custom products actually scored the worst of all.

Thanks for that information.  It's good to know.

nice review you have there.

excellent unboxing video

cogsand gears, I'm very curious about those FA-3e! Appart from the manufacturer's page, I can't seem to find much information about those, and you're the only user around here that I know who has them! I think I'll PM you about some question I have... wink.gif

Swimsonny, how do you compare the 4.Ai to the GR07 (if you can)? I know that technically the 4.Ai are far superior, but what do you think about musicality and bass impact/punch... smile.gif

I am kinda curious on how big the nozzle is. if you are familiar with complys, is it 100, 200 or 400?

I've asked this before, and according to FullCircle they have a 6mm nozzle. Also, Swimsonny successfully tested some T-200 on them...

I would do a full comparison like i have been doing but unfortunately they are no longer with me so it is based on memory. Yes all technical aspects of their are so much better. For example the amazing presentation and depth to soundstage of the heir's makes the lack of depth and 2-D soundstage quite inferior.

Aside from that the GR07 are a very good IEM but they are just not in the same tier. For musicality i found the GR07 rather boring  because of their dryness and uncanny neutrality but that was just me. The Heirs have just a bit of brightness to the mids which allows me to be engaged to them for hours on end just loving the music i am hearing, even my Sony's do not have that affect mut my Ortofon EQ-5 and FAD Heaven IV do.

As far as bass is concerned. The GR07 have a lot more mid and sub bass quantity and in the mid-bass they always shocked me with how much they really SLAMMED. The Heir's can not do this and 'punch' fairly softly although if your aware of a IEM such as the Fischer AUdio DBA-02 or Eymotic HF5 this do still have a lot punchier and stronger bass than them with more quantity.

I would take the Heir's over the GR07 easily every day of the year for the price difference but it depends if you can substitute that GR07 slam for a tighter more refined bass.

FullCircle has said it is 6mm, i have securely fit on a pair of Comply TS200s.

Well, I played drums in my youth for quite some time, so one thing I really appreciate when earing music nowadays is to have a real portrait of drums and to feel the drum kicks (don't mistake me for a basshead, as I'm not)! The GR07 excels in this particular area, as they're the best IEM I've heard for drums! Actually, I never heard any BA IEM's, so maybe these just aren't for me and my tastes... redface.gif

Nice little review, these look very interesting and it would be awesome if I won the contest but thats not going to happen as I never win anything.  I've been looking into customs but I just really like the versatility of universals so these would be perfect for me though the ones I really want are the Fitear To Go 334 but $1250 is a steep price and its also a 4 driver C/UIEM.

Was it a tight fit with TS200's? I have a bunch of left over Comply tips from when I owned Triple.Fi's which I believe are T500's. I'm not sure of the diameter difference between those and the 200's, it would be nice if the T500's fit but if not I'd like to know beforehand so I can order the proper tips because I seem to have an allergy/sensitivity to every silicone tip I've tried.
