Thanks Swimsonny.  Kind of disappointing to get them and not really be able to use them properly yet.  Thanks for the reference to your review, will likely try the MEE tips since the SM3 dual flanges have worked well for me in the past (now finding the right size of them...).

Hey Swimsonny, I have another question. tongue.gif

Have you ever owned customs? I'm asking because I'm sort of in the same age group as you and I'm not sure if it's a very good idea, that with the growth and all that stuff going on.

Alright try them but I will insist that you insert them correctly. First push them in deep and then use them memory wire to rotate them into place and then stuff them in some more!

Zloy:

I actually have my first custom en route, the ACS T2. To be honest I think well be fine but no experiance but have talked to loads of manufactures about it!

To add to the bolded, these need to be inserted like a custom IEM (no exceptions, actually most, if not all, over ear insertions require this).  So you lift the top flap of your ear (pinna I think) to straighten your ear canal.  Then you insert the IEM angled slightly in front of where it would normally be.  Twist (towards where it would be normally) and push the IEM in a screwing motion into your ear canal.  Release the IEM once in a comfortable position (if not, adjust accordingly), then release your pinna to get the correct seal.  Now you place the memory wire in a comfortable position.  On the ASG-1, the position of the memory wire makes a difference regarding comfort, on the Heir Audio, they are more versatile.

Thanks for the advice, will give them another try. However, I've used over ear IEMs in the past (SM3, W4) and haven't had insertion problems, so I think it likely is a tip issue.

It can be a tip issue.  I insert my W4Rs the same way as described above.  The tips I use are a little on the soft side, so it takes me 1-2 tries to get the proper seal on one of my ears.  Do play with tips though.  The 4.Ai should have come with 3 types (blue, red, dual-flange) if I'm not mistaken (my 3.Ai did anyway).

BTW, if you are coming from the W4 or SM3, something that is relatively neutral will sound bass light.  So it can also be that you need to adjust to a new sound.  My UE900s aren't neutral, but still sound light on bass compared to the W4s :p

Was able to get a better seal with some effort using a more CIEM style insertion, thanks. Used the med reds, but still not quite ideal, will keep trying. Have some other tips around that I can try, recently moved so in a box somewhere...

Wow!  That would seem pretty light IMHO.  People take note....

So the W4 has accentuated bass as compared to neutral? When I tried it the bass seemed neutral enough. bigsmile_face.gif

But then again, my main cans are pretty bassy, especially with the M50 pads on them.

Naw, they are accentuated 5-6 dB in the low-to-mid bass to my ears.  The 900s go around 4 dB.  Even the Etymotic HF2s go up 2 dB to my ears (this time in the mid-bass).

When I auditioned the 4.Ai's and 3.Ai's, I found that none of the Heir tips that I tried really worked for me. I didn't try them all, but the double flange and the red smalls did not work to give me an acceptable seal. The only way I was able to get a good seal and hear the IEM's properly was to use some Shure E2 foam tips I happened to have with me. I have had the same issue with my Etymotic ER-4S's. the Ety foam tips work 100% better for me than the flanges.

But, once I did get a good seal, the difference in sound was night and day, in a good way.

I'm curious, if I remember correctly you have 4.Ai's for review, where would you peg their bass?
