If they do this... I will for sure get the 3.ai! :O

After all this time i have owned the Heir 4.Ai i have just got the best sound yet out of it and i want to share that with you. It is the combination of two things that have helped me achieve this. Firstly the MyST PortaDAC 1866 which bypasses the internal DAC in anything that has bluetooth including android and iDevices. It is probably the best sounding DAC that i have heard with 4 different inputs and the AD1866 R-2R DAC. It really suits the 4.Ai as well with its extremely smooth and detailed sound. I then have started to use the Effect Audio Apollo upgrade cable. This slightly reduces mid-bass making the IEM less warm and more neutral with great detail. This really is a top rig and i am oozing the very most out of the 4.Ai.

Using the nexus 7 as the source i also very nice as it has a beautiful and easy UI!

I do hate the picture quality of my iPhone. I could not find my camera at the time.

Just ordered one of these MyST 1866's.  Should be here next week.  I definitely need to stop reading Head-fi threads tongue.gif.

Where is a good place to purchase this Portadac 1866? And does it accept different bit rates and sample rates? Any idea what its amplication power is?

This is a very interesting device because I use Sony's bluetooth receivers MW600 and Smart Wireless Headset Pro with my IEMs and smartphone but I don't think they are powerful enough to drive higher impedance IEMs and headphones.

http://www.musicaacoustics.com/wp/amplifiers/myst-1866/

I just bought their last unit so they will be out of stock until March but there are probably other distributors (?).

I need to google to find all of the specs so I can't tell you everything............

I figure I'd chime in with some first impressions. I just got these yesterday. I've been listening to them from two setups. My desk setup (Macbook pro, W4S DAC1, Amphora) and straight out of an iphone 5. They sound excellent out of both but with a bit more grunt and sparkle from the desk setup.

I've had a few high quality IEMs in the past (Westone W3, triple.fi 10, grado GR8 GR10) but I haven't listened to them in so long that I can't compare them properly to the Heirs. Well, I can say that the Grados have significantly less bass response than all of these. But they had a unique forward midrange that I liked at the time. I can also say that the Heirs sound incredible and I'm very impressed. Even when moving back to my full size Stax, the Heirs aren't far behind when it comes to details and vocal presence. They can't pull off the same soundstage or bass response, though :)

I had a quick comparison between these and the new UE900. The UE900 have a darker sound as the midbass is more prominent. I find the Heirs to be a bit more to my liking - the bass seems a bit more taut which I prefer. Regarding detail retrieval, they both seem about on par to me when using the desktop setup mentioned above - which is very, very good..

Aside from that slight tonal difference, the other thing that tipped the balance toward the Heirs was comfort. They're smaller and lighter than the UE900 and they happen to have a particular set of tips that works great in my ears. It's the double flanged tips that are more boxy that other tips. they don't protrude very deep in the ear, compared to the other tips, but since they're a bit wider than the single flange tips, they provide a better seal than the other XS (or XXS) size sips provided by the heir or the UE900. I've never seen this specific type of double flange tips before but I'm glad I know about them now. they do the job for me.

I'm very happy with these little guys. Some of the best sound I've heard in a very portable, attractive package.

Nice Impressions! I feel the same way in comparison to the UE900.

Might check down the back of the sofa to see if there's a big money roll hiding there ;-)
