I can kind of see why you'd see the PFE232 to be darker in a sense, but I can't see the treble statement.

Well, I wouldn't describe the 4A.i as "treble heavy" but I personally thought is was quite a bright earphone to the point of affecting the natural timbre of some voices, especially soprano, and instruments with a higher register, making them sound more "lit-up" than I thought they should be or at least what I was used to with my other headphones.

PS: The PFE only appears to be dark when switching back from the 4A.i. wink.gif

Which has more treble presence, the UE900 or the 4.Ai? I'm still curious.

The UE 900 has more lower treble response while the 4.Ai has more upper treble response while the UE 900 has better extension ...

PS: the 4.Ai only appears dark after switching from the Etymotic HF5, Phonak PFE232, PFE122, HiFiMan RE400, HiFiMan RE0, Nocs NS800, Denon AH-C400, MEE A161p, et al (there are others). It's about as dark as the W4, maybe a little more since the W4 has more lower treble response and upper treble brightness and extension due to the 10k spike and lower treble plateaue.

Since the UE900 has more lower treble response, do you think it will have the impact in snare drums I'm seeking?

It may, but the lower-treble is still a weakness of the UE 900.  Filling in the mini-bore helps out a bit making the lower-treble seem more apparent, but there are better choices out there regardless.

What are these "ME tips" referenced in the thread? There are also mentions of Comply T400 and T500, any other Comply compatible?

For the Heir reps, any plans to sell tips individually by type and size? There is the universal tip kit but once you find the ones 'for you' then no-one needs redundant tips. Any impending UK/EU based distribution plans because no-one likes import charges (not that I expect an answer to this last one)

For the new year am going to completely revamp my audio setup. There will be a lot of selling :p

You may be better off with the 3.ai's

In terms of the snare snaps (lower-treble response), the UE 900 would be a step up from the 3.Ai's in this region.  All three IEMs do lack in this area though, so if that's what he's after, he may want to look elsewhere entirely.  The 4.Ai is the weakest (unfortunately) with the lower treble, followed by the 3.Ai, followed by the UE 900.  Either way though, I feel he should look elsewhere for lower-treble response.  None of the 3 IEMs will do it.

I went with black with wizard engraving (unless you mean customized phrasing).  I didn't want to draw too much attention from co-workers and commuters.  But after seeing some of the designs in this thread my next one will be a little more creative.

Just be aware that it's "probably" going to be still cheaper for you to order directly.  Don't get me wrong I too have hovered over the buy button but the mark up (which I understand covers them for any import fees plus small profit for them)is a little too big for my taste.  I can understand about not having to worry about paying costs and letting someone else deal with it, that's part of the temptation :)

Cheers

Before you "push that button" contact them and ask if they have in "in stock" or not. Otherwise buying direct may actually even be faster.
