Those are definitely my favourite Heir CIEM so far! If I'd go for a Heir CIEM, I'd want it as close as possible to those beauties... redface.gif

Would you happen to have any pictures of your buckeye burl? And I forgot about the rendition 1. I'd rather wait for reviews on how it pairs with the 4ai before buying it though...

Yes, you can request a darker shade of wood, but we can't make any guarantees. It all depends on what we have on hand.

What's a good third party triple flange for this baby? It keeps sliding out of my ear after a while.

How familiar are you with Buckeye Burl?

As far as the ability of chooseing "darker shades" not really.  The issue is how does one define "darker?"   Wood, by its very nature is unique, that to me is what makes wood beautiful.

I think you need to lookup "burl".  It's a different part of the tree with more chaotic (unique, random) design (rings) when viewing its cross sections as opposed to the more conical rings of the normal tree cross sections.  More information on what a burl is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burl

Can someone tell me how is the comparison in term of sound stage, vocal/instrument separation, bass between Heir Audio 4.Ai and Westone UM3X?

Which one has a deep, punchy quality deep bass?

Which one is good for music like jazz, blues & rocks?

Actually just wrote up a bit on this: http://www.head-fi.org/t/638690/review-a-brief-comparison-of-6-mid-centric-iems-um3x-re262-sm3-and-more

Those are my two favorite universal IEMs right now.

I also have both iems and the heir 4.ai's bass is definitely an upgrade from the um3x it has more punch and goes deeper. For jazz and blues the heir's would be better because you get more detail with them.

In term of vocal/instruments separation and wider sound stage, which is better: Heir 4.ai or Westone UM3X?

I thought Heir 4.ai had less punch then Westone 4 ? I had both the UM3X and the W4 and I can tell you that UM3X has significantly more bass punch than W4.

Your first assertion is how I hear it too.  The W4 has a stronger punch (and is more impactful) than the 4.Ai.  Haven't heard the UM3 though, so no comparison there.  There have been lots of contradictions show up with people's comparisons with other IEMs with the 4.Ai, it really confuses the hell out of me :p

Clarity in the upper-midrange is better in the W4(R).  Detail retrieval (and clearness) in the lower midrange is stronger in the 4.ai.  Take your pick :p
