Beyerdynamic Decisions.....

Thread Starter

Well Ive had my DT-531's for a little while now and

I have to say, I wasnt expecting to use them more than I do my Grado SR60i's or HD25 1 II's.

But I'm falling in love with the sound they present, Makes a nice change from my usual Sennheiser/Grado addiction I have

And widens my listening experience. :)

So, On to this thread...

Ive got to the point now where I'm ready to commit to going over the £200 barrier Ive

up until now shy'd away from.

I am still relatively new to this all but I know my ears and I know I now need more...

Basically I want something that will better present what my DAC and Amp are retrieving.

So from what Ive been looking at Im presented with I think three choices from Beyerdynamic.

The DT880, The DT990 OR.... The Tesla T70. The Tesla's being my utter cap on budget lol!

Ild love to Demo a pair first before I go ahead however no-where local to me sell them.

So some advice please folks.

What DAC and amplifier are you using?

The DT880 is a very balanced sound, the DT990 are more full bass & full treble.

For now I have the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100  & Pro-Ject Headbox II ( Soon to be replaced with the Audio Technica AT-HA20 )

This will eventually change once Ive decided if I want to stay with Solid State or go with Tubes. Once Ive made that decision I'll be upgrading the Amp first.

As for the Dac I really like the DacMagic as I already own a lot of Cambridge Audio gear and I love the sound they produce,

So I doupt Ill upgrade the Dac any time soon.

Ive just noticed the Tesla comes in two flavours , The T70 or T70p The T70 being 250 ohm & the T70p being 32 ohm.

*Edit* Yes I have my eyes trained on the Tesla's lol!

*Edit-2* If I went with either the 880 or 990 I think Ild probably sway towards the 880 as I dont want too much colour.

Decisions decisions....

You shouldn't limit yourself to just Beyerdynamic and add Hifiman HE-400 to your list. Also DT990 are bright sometimes harsh, for more info you should comparison guide in this forum

Hi,

I think he'd be better off with the DT880, T70, or T1. He was looking for a more neutral sound while neither of those you mentioned aren't neutral. The two you listed are great headphones, but not what he was looking for.

Paul, The T70 and DT880 are very neutral headphones. It's hard to pick between them but I say the T70 may be more for you. They are easier to drive than the DT880 by a long mile. Of the T70 and T70p, I recommend the T70. It's pretty sensitive so it should be an easier load for your amp, plus the treble of the T70p seems to be harsher.

Thanks for the replies and help so far chaps :)

After reading and watching more reviews, The T70's look like the ones for me.

So Ive started saving already lol!

Should have them by the end of next month.

For now I need to get my stands,  IE8's and recables all payed for.

Now, As for an amp to drive the T70's...

For now Ill be getting the Shanling P100 and hopefully a tube amp of some kind.

So now its just a waiting game......
