Question about CAT 5 interconnect

Hi,
i opened up a cat 6 cable that i have a few meters extra with me, there are 4 pairs of cables in this thing. Is it suffficient if i use only 2 pairs of wires or do i need all the 4 pairs for a better sounding interconnect?

Since 2 pairs would give 1 channel + 1 earthing * 2

and 4 pairs would give 1 channel + 1 earthing * 4

so i can use 2 pairs for each channel if i use 4 pairs at a time.

So what would be a better option use 2 pairs or all the 4 pairs?

thanks.

I used 25 pair.

It looks really cool.

25 pairs? are you serious?

Sure, it may look good, but does it sound good?

I would just get some starquad though.

from what i read, it just lacks shielding which is taken care of by the twisting , which rejects noise, and also cat 5 cables have some of the lowest capacitance, making it an ideal interconnect cable. Just wanted to know if it would be better to use all the four pairs, or even the two pairs would be sufficient.

If you want low capacitance, you want to use a single pair. Using multiple pairs lowers resistance, but raises capacitance. Capacitance is what really matters in IC's, not resistance.

There's some instructions on how to make a CAT5 interconnect that would sound good. Do make sure that the wires aren't insulated with PVC, or else all this work will result in a not-so-great sounding cable.

Thanks, fiddler.
Very helpful.

Also check out this one.

A problem with CAT5 is that it's stiff - your IC will not be very flexible, otherwise it works pretty well.
