I've pretty much stayed away from this site for two years or so - I'm into big a** speakers like Infinity RS 2.5s and B&W 801s now - and twenty minutes later I have a pair of headphones coming from Japan and I'm out $79. Thanks guys!

LOL ! Good story. Yes, this is a dangerous thread!

hmmmmm ericp's new discovery looks really promising, from your initial impressions it seems like it's the ideal basshead IEM for audiophiles. That BAM tech thing is really interesting as well. Keep us updated ericp, really wanna hear more about these. Though they are not as sexy looking as these JVC FXD series. :D

@"..............................................................Nano-Clip+Party 2012......................................................."

Oh hey Dsnuts and peps that are interested in the nano-cliparty as doc would say it, how are we gonna implement it exactly??? We can't just share youtube clips and just listen with our S500s, cuz then the whole idea of the clip player part is left out. Nor does it make sense to just listen to our own music with our clip+S500 setup cuz then you get no group synergy/ participation.

Well I kinda thought about it, and came up with some ideas. A person that has the skills/ knowledge on how to make a free public/ private (whichever works best) group account on sharebeast/ mediafire, etc for all of us to upload our mp3 files. Then we can all upload like a couple of our favorite songs that we love listening to with our S500s into this shared folder. After the tracklist is made and all of the files are uploaded, we can then download it and put it into our clips/ mp3 players (for others that don't have the clip but do have the S500s and wants to join out nano-cliparty).

The last part is to set up a date and time that is convenient for most for this event.  We all could discuss/ chat on this thread or in a newly created thread labeled "Nano-Clip+Party 2012" or something along those lines. This way we can all listen to the same tracklisted songs with our S500s at the same time which makes discussion/ participation much better. Just my 2 cents. Anyone care to share some more input???

+1 Whe need to listen to the same files. I am gonna upload some Salsa you know so get ready to shake that body

One problem with that....everybody will not like the same music. If I don't like the music, I can't listen to it, regardless of the recording quality or the headphone/speakers I am listening to.

^but that's the fun of it you'll, get to experience new sounds, genres of music etc. So the few files that people upload better be their all time favorites and has to sound amazing with these S500s. I know music is subjective bla bla bla, you know what I mean, listen with a open mind and hope we'll have a lively discussion. Maybe give a brief intro on why you like it so much with these S500s. You never know what you'll stumble upon so, it's gonna a trip for sure.

If this ever materializes that is..............................

I'm ready to CliPARTY!.....

Got my clip in, finished rockboxing it about an hour ago. Pretty simple process. Loaded a few GB of ALAC files to test it out. For sure lives up to my expectations after hearing everyone's positive remarks on it.

Enjoying it right now. Is going to be a perfect match for my IEM's for gym use and with my S500 when I am traveling. I didn't realize it was so tiny. I had actually never even seen one before.

I was worried how well it would handle ALAC but sounds great.

So I am officially a Clipper.

Glad you like your Clip, Doc.  How do you like the power output on it for the S500s? Have you tried yet with your E11 to see if it improves them?

Oh yea I almost forgot about that discussion on the E11. I haven't had a chance yet. Between getting a few things done today I have been copying music over and making a playlist. Right now I am enjoying it with my TF10s and it seems there is no question it sounds more transparent to me but I need to do a direct comparison with the ipod still.

I'll do that E11 comparison as well. Since I have no LOD for this obvoiusly, what volume to you recommend I put it at into my e11? Or is there a "line out" option in the software even maybe?

On the subject of power for the S500 it for sure has plenty. I even hooked my 250ohm DT770 just to see if it could push em. At max volume on the clip it brings them just slightly above my normal comfortable listening levels. Albeit the bass suffered in both quantity and quality but I was impressed that I even got what I did out of that little thing.

Cel I will for sure let you know when I get to compare to the E11.

Edit: Oh yea and I LOVE how this thing is virtually weightless when you clip it on!. Perfect combo with IEMs. This is honestly the best purchase I have made on audio in the last month. Just what I needed for on the go.

Somewhere I read that you put the volume on the rockboxed Clip to 0 for using it with a headphone amp, which kind of makes sense based on the test data out there that shows it doesn't clip or heavily distort near full volume. But that probably depends on whether or not your music has the level match tags and have that replay gain engaged, and whether or not you used the EQ to boost frequencies (vs. cut them).

This is correct. But I can say that with the S500's, no amp is required with my rockboxed Clip Zip.

Okay so everyone else here is tracking.... we all know that the s500 is fine unuamped out of most dap's. That is not the issue.

About a week ago I told cel that although the S500 ran plenty easy direct from my ipod touch, I prefered to listen using an LOD and my FiiO E11. I told him the SQ was better though the volume and power WAS NOT an issue.

Cel and others found this interesting and at the time there was a whole discussion about the Ipod and why it would sound better with that implementation. This is where the whole clip thing came up to begin and I was linked to NwAvGuy's article on the Clip (referencing the clips low impedance output and super low distortion).

MEANWHILE BACK AT THE RANCH........

SO Cel, I managed to get to doing some A/Bing. I first did the iPod vs the Clip. I found putting my finger on what sounds better to me about amps (or internal dap amp circuits in this case) was a lot more difficult than with cans. That being said, in simplistic summary the iPod sounded thinner and more sibilant. (both set on flat eq) I found this to be consistent with the above mentioned article.

Then I went to the ipod&E11 vs the Clip. Now this was hard. For sure the SQ was noticibly better than just the ipod out. The difference to me was the clip sounds a tad warmer than the E11. It almost seemed like attack was somehow faster with the e11.

In anycase the difference was not drastic. So to my ears i would say:

clip = ipod&e11 > ipod

Im thinking I prefered the e11 combo a tad but I prolly could have spent more time with more tracks but to me they are pretty close in any case.

The e11 does did not improve the SQ on the clip to me so I did not test with that.

Doc.
