Okay now.. I hope I am not the ONLY person who feels like fit is a flaw with the JVC's If I am, then just scroll to the end of this super-long post and pretend I don't exist.... If you want a better seal from your pads... read on:
Okay I did the mod to switch the left and right drivers. THe purpose of this mod is to allow the cups to rotate toward your face and not put as much pressure on the back of your ears and thereby leaving a gap where the pads touch your cheek. This results in a poor seal or in my case having to rotate the headband almost to the back of my head to get a proper seal.
I tried one meathod that DID NOT work which was to switch this piece:
All I had to do is remove the 2 screws in that piece and the enitre driver and cup came right off. THat little plastic piece contains the stopper that causes the cup to rotate one way or the other. I switched that piece and put it back together.
When you swap that little plastic piece instead of the piece rotating this way:
It now wan'ts to rotate this way:
All I wanted to do was switch the direction of the rotation and IT WORKED!.....sort of......
Basically it caused the cups to rotate the opposite direction allowing them to fit flush up against your entire ear and cheek. The problem is that you HAVE TO wear these things "BACKWARDS" in order to get the proper clamping force. The cups want to roll forward when you do this mod and you have the opposite problem. Instead of too much pressure on the back tips of your ears, it is all now transferred to your cheek and this produces a gap between the pad and the back of the ear instead of a gap on you cheek. Same problem in a different way.. Don't try it, trust me.
So I had another idea which was to switch the driver cup from one side to the other. In order to do this you have to remove this "cradle" part from the cup:
(NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE THIS PART FROM THE HEADBAND, I ALREADY HAD IT DISCONNECTED. It will be easier to keep it on the headband.
To remove this YOU MUST REMOVE THE DRIVERS by taking off your pads and removing 3 screws. IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE DRIVERS YOU WILL BREAK YOUR HEADPHONES.
Once the drivers are out, you can CAREFULLY pull this side out of the cup (the longer side of the cradle is easier to flex):
Once you have flexed the cradle and have the longer side free, carefully wiggle the cradle back and forth until it releases from the shorter side.
NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Now switch the cups from one side to the other..... YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE CABLE SIDE IS DOWN so you will have to rotate them. Dry fit it before you actually re-attach the cups.
Once the Left cup and driver is on the Right and vice versa and you are sure the cable is facing DOWN you can reassemble the cup assembly. Put ur pads back on and ur done.
This mod WORKS. You will now be wearing them "backwards" but the drivers are now switched and the clamping force is now sufficient to hold the pads evenly against your ears. I now wear the headband comfortably almost straight up and down and not towards the back of my head.
Some people might want to just remove drviers by unsoldering them from the cable but this is a method to do it without having to do any soldering.
