Right now I have them playing an electro-house playlist in another room for at least the next 3 days (they just arrived today, like what I heard besides a certain shrillness), after which I will take a peek inside. I just know that with the bass ports taped, it's supposed to help with the bass with HM5 pads.

Also, any luck for anyone finding any HM5 pads recently? >w>

The HM5 pads aren't hard to find - they are pads for Brainwavz HM5, so mp4nation is the place to get them. I've said it before though - for me the stock pads are the best sounding. The other pads reduce the bass a lot and ruin the depth of the soundstage that for me is one of the strongest sides of s500. Taping the ports boosts the bass but ruins its texture.

Try mp4 nation.  Sells them $8.50ish each and you have to order two.

Or get 6 and throw a pair on the Ultrasone's, TBSE1's & 8323's.. turns them all into pillows of sound for $17 a set. biggrin.gif

Liar! The HM5 pads don't fit on the TBSE1's! At least, I just tried getting them on, and gave up while cursing your name lol wink.gif

biggrin.gif Sorry biggrin.gif I was just throwing out names there...

That's too bad cause they would be great on the TBSE's, is the diameter of the HM5's too small around to fit?

Is one of dem mad dogs a good upgrade from these?

Yeah, dampening experiments proved to be kind of a flop. They sound fantastic as they are.

I would definitely say so, though they will require quite a bit more power, so a headphone amp of some kind would be your best bet, though they run from my X-Fi Titanium HD alright.

I should also say they have slightly different signatures to my ears. The T50RP is a touch more laid back and natural sounding, while the S500s are pretty in your face, especially with vocals and percussion (the kick drum punch is fantastic). This is probably because of the distance of the speaker from your ear. And as I said, the T50s and all variants require a lot more power to shine, whereas the S500 is good to go from any mobile device.

That's interesting. I feel as if the punch is a bit lacking, but the sub bass is fantastic.

I bought a dt 770 80 ohm and was amazed how the ha-s500 can compete with him ... beyerdinamic wins in the bass but the jvc impressed me, surely one of the best headphones to $ 50

It's punchier than my T50RPs at least, more physical force to the sound IMO. With that said there is definitely fatigue with them, they are not terribly comfortable as is, though I expected that.

The HA-S500 has got to be the most disappointing headphone that I've ever heard, IMO.

People said it was so good, and I thought I would have loved it.
Nnnope. Gives me a literal headache just listening to it. No amount of EQing has been able to redeem it either. I'm gonna post them to the FS/FT forum soon. I'm going back to my Downtowns

I think it depends on your listening preferences, but I will definitely say the downtowns are super comfy in comparison, though the cable and somewhat muffled quality of the sound made it less than desirable for my tastes.

Could you go into detail about what bothers you about the sound in particular?

(Also, respect for the avatar~)
