The vocals are definitely more forward or in your face than the rest of the sound spectrum. It makes the vocals sound more lively though which is a good thing.

I'm not buying ES700s. tongue.gif

Agreed! I gotta get another set one of these days, with the parts express headset for them. My only complaint with them was the cables didn't hold up well.

Also when people in this thread say bizarre things like: "it's like the portapro's on steroids," the thread loses credibility.

The reality is, you can't reinvent the wheel. The portapro's are an excellent open back design at a ridiculously low price. I have serious doubts about whether an closed headphone can match, much less surpass them at this price point.

The S500s sound so much better than the Portapros, it's not even funny. Portapros aren't bad, I've had them before....but they're positively boring to listen to in comparison.

Portapro's are amazing in my setup: quarter modded (super simple), with a small E6 amp. With the highs a bit more open as a result of the mod and amp, along with the thump and impact of the bass, I can't imagine anyone not having fun with the portapro's. :)

I can't speak to the quality of the 500's. I just know I was perfectly pleased with the 700's, but thought the hype on head fi was just laughable: exaggerated to a gross degree.

Are the 500's significantly better than the 700's? The 700's are solid, but there's nothing there that should lead to the glowing reviews on head fi and amazon, IMO.

I never quarter modded the ones I had. That might have been what they were missing....

It's super simple and makes a noticeable difference. I refuse to even listen to headphones without running them through an amp nowadays as well. Even a small amp like an E6 makes a big difference.

If that's STILL not enough, you can try a modest treble boost/bass cut with your EQ in addition.

Those are three very simple changes that make a big difference in the sound signature, adding a lot of warmth and detail.

Where is that?

Yesterday morning my old headphone died. Yesterday afternoon I found this thread Yesterday evening bought them out of Japan.
Since then spend a lot of time  reading here and I would really like the WS55 pads. My seller on ebay has them on stock so sent him a message just now.
Only ''problem'' is: How do you put them on. I read a lot of pages here and I can't find the answer.
I am totally new to this so sorry in advance if this a total ''noob'' question.
Cheers

How does these compare with the CAL?

Got another question. At the price of the jvc ha s500 you can also get the tdk st700 at the same price. Which one do you think is better?

I haven't been around lately and I see both love and hate are being spread. Still enough people to keep the hype train on track.

Do you mind giving me an explanation on why so. Is it because s500 is more controlled with the bass or less muffled in the mids or something along the line?

Honestly... I think the rule of thumb should be, "Never come into a appreciation thread looking for alternatives". I would try the Recommendation thread for questions of that nature. I mean.. the appreciation thread is biased. For our American audience... that's like going to Fox News looking for liberal coverage. Just saying.

You are right.

just wondering if anyone has both of them for comparison sakes.

I am always curious to why people like certain item so much. Pure the hype..or it really that good. Looking for a sub 50€ headphones and play around with it...before taking the next step to a M80/Amperior price range headphone.

To bad these headphones has not been reviewed by innerfidelity, joker or clieos.
