I am using my laptop -> ELE DAC -> E12 (version 1) -> S500 (hm5 pads on stock pads, vents untaped).

Imo, at least for trance, I'm not sure that the S500's could sound better than in this configuration. I am completely blown away.

The ELE DAC brightens things a tad, which causes the S500's to become a bit too bright for me. I was using my E11 to tone it down, but the E11 causes a slight loss of detail and resolution. The E12 on the other hand nicely tames the highs - no sibilance at all - with no discernible loss of resolution. I can crank up the volume and no fatigue. Awesome.

The "hm5 pads over stock pads with vents untaped" means that the bass is lowered a bit. It was perfectly acceptable for me, but with the E12 (v1)'s bass boost, it very nicely brings out the sub-bass of the S500's, and minimizes boominess. It just makes the already excellent bass of the S500 sound fuller, more detailed and powerful.

Thought I'd give the "Clip Zip + E12 (v1) + S500" a whirl. Again, awesomeness. It just makes the S500 sound very full bodied and powerful. Crank up the volume. Awesome bass and full bodied notes throughout the FR, but without any harshness in the treble regions, and no slight veil like I was finding with the E11. I'm really digging the versatility of this E12 amp - it's powerful enough to be used as a desktop amp for high impedance headphones, and mobile enough to use everywhere else. I'm getting very addicted to this this gizmo. It's not like it's really needed - all of my headphones and iem's sound great without it - but it adds something extra that is appreciated.

Btw, this is also an endorsement for the Clip Zip - very good audio coming out of that little and inexpensive media player. Gotta give kudos to Doc Holiday for getting me onto that.

S500 w/AT Pleater + Fiio E11 EQ1 bass boost = PERFECT.

the EQ1 bass boost brings back the bass body of s500 while using AT Pleather.

I ordered this pair still waiting, but what would be a good hard case for shoving in my backpack and taking to school? Any help would be extremely useful.

I really like the bass boost from my JDS C421 amp with my s500's, really clean and punchy!

I ordered a pair of Senn HD 25-1 II pads for them on amazon also.

Hello guys.
How are the JVC HA-S500 compared to CAL and the AKG K518?
Listening to house music / trance often loud with a FiiO e10 ...

He did reply to you so yeah lol

I agree with him, S500 is pretty much the best for Trance you can get under $200.

Sorry I'm Italian and I do not understand English well ...
I currently have the cal + FiiO e10 ... if I buy the s500 what we gain in terms of bass, mid and high? Especially low interest me ...
Are so different from cal? Have more bass for k518?
should I buy the s500?

Hahaha of few words ...
Well the K518 has some very strong mid-bass ... if the jvc ha-s500 is even stronger is a beautiful headphone guess ...

I don't know about the K518, but the S500's are definitely NOT lacking in the bass department smile.gif

I'm a little undecided on an Italian forum ... some say that they have more details cal and lower than the jvc 400 ... what is the truth

But the 500 has more bass to cal?

bass of s500 is much faster than call. i would not say, that it has more midbass, than the akg, but reaches much deeper, down to about 25 hz. resolution, and imaging is really good, and can easily compare with 150 eur phones.
