Actually, in the case of the S500, headphone burn in does seem to exist. I was always skeptical before I got these, but there certainly was a change for the better with these after 100+ hours of high volume trance music burn in.

Trance and D&B / Dubstep works best.

i got my second pair yesterday and compared it out of the box to my already 100s of hours used pair. they do both sound absolutely identical.

But i thought you hated your 1st sets on open box and was ripping on them here. Then you saw the light after burn-in no???

Maybe you got a set that was pre-burned in, cuz others has reported these sounded great upon open box, but the set i got sounded like crap on open box thats for sure. Still remember how they sounded like it was yesterday, then it changed up on me after blasting them in for like a day or 2.

Changing pads are really the key to improve them, sonically.

Hey Master Troll when I said TROLL I was talking about your custom title and nothing else. tongue_smile.gif    My S500 sounded great on oben box, but with burn-in they sounded  even better. When I changed to velour pads + foam inserts they sound just superb.

Its SIR MASTER TROLL to you sir!!! tongue_smile.gif

I'll take that as a compliment, but i knew what you were originally trying to say. wink_face.gif

It seems that the sound quality of these S500s varies unit from unit from open box, but burning them in always changes them for the better.

Don't forget about stuffing those pads/ taping the bass ports, etc. These little mods are key as well if you want to milk these S500s for every ounce they got, in order to tune the sound to your liking.

you are right, thats what i said, so i come to the conclusion, that my brain "burned in" or you could say, i get used to the sound. thats another hint for me, that burn in is all about psychology.

You believe what you wanna, but NO!!! LoL I know my S500s sounded like crap upon open box that's why i always document my initial impressions on threads like these. They sound nothing like how it sounded on open box now. That magic dood said these S500s sounded like crap initially as well, but did a complete 180 after some burn-in, so.........

You heard what you heard on your 1st open box impressions meng, don't try to do any mental gymnastics just cuz your 2nd sets sounds "proper" upon open box, go buy yourself another new set to see if you just lucked out on your 2nd set. biggrin.gif

You will not believe what i heard outta my 1st set of sony MH1Cs on open box, that was what made me a true believer in burn-in. Man what a crazy experience that was cuz they sounded literally like crappy boomy/ muddy bass cannons and it took like almost a week on max full blast to get it to their more refined balanced sound so many got on OPEN BOX!!!  LMAO  I got trolled hard by them. Burn-in is real meng, but it varies a lot it seems from gear to gear at different degrees. Mental burn-in is a factor as well, but it's not remotely as big of a factor because there is no mental adaptation in the entire world can make something sound so sh!tty into something so amazing, just none.

After buying a pair of JVC HA-SR500's in a local shop I realised that they are not the model everyone is loving.  Those seem to be exclusive to Japan or as an import.  The HA-SR500's are a re-branded older model, they sound good with electronic music, but no nearly as much with my lossless music.  Damn, I got so excited over them at first.  Good thing I got them for so cheap.  I think I'll give them to my son, he likes on ears and these sound better than his current Sony's.

It seems the north american version of the HA-500's is an altogether different beast.  After a good listen to some lossless tracks, they sound good enough for the money I payed, but they won't be my new fav's after all.  Certainly not for bassheads either.

Keep on loving the frequencies,

TBB
