Anyone tried the HM5's over the HD25 velours?

Or over any velours for that matter.

if you tape the vents, the hd25 velours do not decrease the bass anymore.

Just received mine and I must say that this is way too good for a V shaped sounding heaphone :) Even at point zero it displayed its capabilities.

do they also reduce the hot ear phenomenon? my whole head is getting hot after 1h+ use with stock pads.

i do prefer the S500 over my M50 besides the comfort

as i do not have any warmth problems with either pad, i cannot help you.

my old sennheiser hd212pro pads actually fit tightly over the stock pads. and i don't think the sound changed for the worse (although there is some difference i can't put my finger one yet)

A lot of people have complained about the stock pads making their ears sweaty. Once they bought the HD25 velours that problem was apparently solved. For me it was the opposite: my ears got hot with the velours, and were fine with the stock pads.

 

The velours have great highs and mids, but the low end is disappointing. I wasn't a fan of the vents being taped, but it's seems worth a shot in your case.

the HM5 pads have no such effect on the low end? i'll probably just dismiss looks and go for these then (or just use the hm5 pads at home, without rings)

To me, the velours muffled the upper mids a little bit, along with the bass, enough for me to go back to stock until summer time. Then, the hot ear syndrome will drive me to put the velours back on, and do some EQ correction. 

My S500's just came in today. I don't have experience with high-end headphones, but I'll say the SQ on these is pretty amazing to me. The bass is incredible. Really punchy and isn't all muffled. The highs are a little harsh. Not ear piercing, but bordering on shrill.

Give it some time, they'll settle down and sound even better.

After modding these and testing a few different options, I have finally THE mod for me. After deciding that taped bass ports + stuffed stock pads + HM5 was not good enough in terms of bass, I did as sfwalcer suggested in his "double stuffed" post and added a layer of cotton ball (under the layer of toilet paper) to the stuffed stock pads. Now along with the awesome highs and sound stage, I get some awesome BOOMAGE! Seriously, the bass is probably as good as it was with the stock pads alone. I want to thank everyone who helped me with suggestions and everything else! If you need me, I'll be in my own world for a few hours 

My favorite way to listen to them is with the stock pads, followed by the rings, and then the HM5 pads on top.
