I do like my HFI-780 more than my S500, but they also cost 3-4 times as much as the S500......and I only use them if i am just chilling somewhere, whereas the S500 can be used portably, and don't need an amp either. A Clip+/Clip Zip or iPod Shuffle will power the S500 just fine, but I prefer to have another amp in the mix with the 780s.

Then again they weigh nearly a 100 gram more.

new mod that i posted on the s400 forum
post #4670 of 65171/28/13 at 5:28pmOk I was going to get another set of budget heaphones and I think these might be it unless someone has a better recommendation for the same price or cheaper. I have the ATHM50s, monoprice djs and I used to have the HARX700s. How do these compare to all of those?

^ that's pretty far from general consensus, to be fair. Most people report a distinct drop in bass using velours, hence why so very few people use them.
The most common thing to do is get some of the bigger pads and tape up the driver vents to varying degrees. some say this makes them sound unnatural.
Have a more decent look at the OP, it's nice and informative and full of links to reviews with different pads.post #4675 of 65171/29/13 at 11:17amWouldn't the HD25 pleathers do the trick?

If you want the best comfort the rings using HM5 pad mod we have going on now is highly recommended. Not only the best comfort. You sacrifice looks for the best comfort with better sound even. And using the stock pads on your HA-S500. If your gonna spend a close amount of money to get this mod. This would be the mod to go with. You can always take off the pads with ease to use out doors so you don't look like a dork but this mod is as easy as it gets too.post #4677 of 65171/29/13 at 12:21pmQuote:Originally Posted by Achmedisdead

He said he didnt find them worth the 90 (30 to customs) euros I paid. But any chance to increase the soundstage? Different pads and or mods?
