I suspect the isolation will be worse than what it is with stock pads considering they are flatter which means you'll have less clamping force.

Same can be noticed the same with the ATH Pleathers. wink.gif

U guys need to dampen your plastic driver housings and fill that hollow casing like I did with my s400 so that tapping on them sounds more solid.
Tuned the s400 into a different animal.
It changed from a bassy midrage centric & subdued highs head phone,
to a signature almost like a baby m100.
No bass bloom, vshaped sound and clear highs on tapped stock pads..
Very clear sounding smily_headphones1.gif

My S500 contest prize was a pair of Monoprice 8320's! Thanks DS!

I've let them burn in for 16 hours, and have been listening mainly to electronic music like this so far today. They fit my ears quite well, and so far the tips that work best for me are auveo tips.

They are indeed quite amazing for the price. Airy, nice soundstage, good bass, detailed highs. My preferred sound signature would be something like that provided by the TDK MT300's (abundant/punchy/detailed bass, upfront/forward mids, non-sibiliant/harsh highs). The 8320's are brighter and less bassy than the TDK's, but pumping them through the E11 and it's EQ2 warms them up nicely and enhances the bass. The sound is very good - it is no surprise that these have such a huge following!

So, I finally got to try the ELE with the S500. Pretty much felt like I was getting a frontal lobe lobotomy with the aggressive sou d. When I play around with EQ, it seems to be the around the 6hz or 8hz range that's getting to me.

Not entirely sure why I seem to be the only once suffering so much with this. It's not bitrate or badly sampled albums, either.

Hey, you're not allowed to post something OT in this thread! wink.gif

Dsnuts says that it's a good idea to burn the ELE in, so you should give that a whirl.

The ELE does brighten things up a tad. Works wonders on less-bright phones such as the Uptowns or tdk mt300's. With the S500's, it might tend towards frontal lobotomy mode for me as well if the S500's weren't burned in sufficiently, and also if I wasn't using the HM5 pads over top of the stock pads. But burned in and with HM5 pads, the S500 and ELE sounds great to me. And it also sounds great (and less bright) when the E11 is thrown into the mix.

I located one here in the F/S section of the forum.  I should be getting it any day and will pair it with my Magni for testing purposes.  I don't anticipate that it will really take the place of the Modi, or the Muse, which is on its way to me.  However, I'm eager to see what it offers as I do have some darker headphones to try with it.  In my case, I'm glad I'm buying it used, as it should already be nicely burnt in.  Nothing beats "plug and play."  wink.gif

Yes but I know for a fact many guys sell stuff not burned in or used at all. They open stuff try it out. Think it is too bright and then they sell it. Too many guys are guilty of this. I would definitely run them or any DAC for that matter at least a week before judging even if you bought a supposed used one on sale.

There are many guys that just have no clue about burn in at all. They think that is how stuff will sound. If I didn't burn in my Fire Phoenix I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. But I am glad it got plenty of use. It is simply my best sounding DAC/AMP even over much more expensive stuff. And yes my Fire Phoenix was bright out of box. Clean but bright. So was my Ele.. Burn them in by just using them for a week straight.. The sounds will only improve.

I recently got DannyBai's Leckerton Dac/Amp he let me borrow for a week. To my surprise he said he used the DAC section of the Leckerton UHA-6S MKii like 2 times. So I hooked it up to my laptop to get a bright and somewhat harsh sounding Leckerton. So what did I do? I just let it play and play. Almost 40 hours while I had it. The sound changed from first time I tried it to when I sent it back to him was completely different. The Leckerton I sent him back sounded so much better. It goes to show you. Burn in is not just for headphones.

Hey dsnuts, I hate to see you doing all of that time consuming work! I would be happy to get stuff sounding better for you. In fact, it would probably just make sense for you to change your tenso shipping address to my address very_evil_smiley.gif
