Hey zombie. Could you please chill with the personal attacks.? Magicman is only just stating what his preference is there is no harm in it. One thing that is extremely important is everyone has different taste in sound. One mans preference is another mans ear ache. This is very important to understand about fellow headfiers.. So Please both you guys chill with the personal statements. I am free of any type of thread lockage of any type because I welcome peoples thoughts on a phone that start a thread like or dislike. Magics points are valid and he likes a certain type of sound many of us may or may not like but that is his take on them. I don't tell a guy just because he doesn't hear the phone I like the way I do that he is wrong and I am right. So what if he happens to be the first to not like the HA-S500 sound so much. IT is still in the burn in process and as you guys know people warm up to sounds. He owns them and is willing to give them a good try.

 

There is no clause that says everyone that buys these must love them as much as you guys..You guys should be open to what others think regardless of how they think. What matters most is if you enjoy the sounds that are coming out of these headphones. Who cares what others think. Don't take offense or start talking smack to guys that have a different take on a sound. As long as you enjoy the sound that should not matter.

Hey Magicman, I think that you have shown a good level of restraint relative to what's been thrown at you, so kudos. And I am really enjoying your impressions, so please don't get discouraged and please keep them coming. It will be interesting to see what you think after you have given the S500's a couple hundred hours of burn in, and potentially with some different pads. I find the bass to be a bit boomy with just the stock pads (but then again, I'm a wimp lol). But with the HM5 pads over the stock pads, I love the sound.

Hey it's all good, I can take it.  That shows a little more in the age difference, I guess?  I'm 39 in a short few but still act like a kid.
Ask my wife...HAHAAA!!!   I'm a wimp in the Bass Dept as well, I used to like the " Boom", but now it's too much, most of the time.

 

 I did some reading from the start of the thread, I might order some Velours and maybe the AT pads as well. 

I have no comfort issues at all, but these will maybe give me a different sound..  I am really liking these the more I use them tho.

Well, the guys with the S400s are dampening the cups and driver holders with tape and all that sort of business. I think I'll give it a shot when I can be bothered to open them up again.

Something I do wonder about is the effect of the cover on the hole on the back of the driver. Since the S400 appears to have it opened and guys on that thread say covering it up makes it harsh and tinny. I still find these too hot to listen to for very long or at really satisfying volumes.

Nope we still high on those HM5 pads, there is a new S400s mod that looks kinda iffy/ promising if tried on these S500s but i ain't messing with it. Check the S400s thread for the new mod.
