Need some advice.

I'm currently using the FXD80s and I'm absolutely in love with them. Although the recessed mids aren't a deal breaker for me, I'm craving them very much, as that would make those IEMs truly perfect for my needs.

With that being said, are the S500s a worthwhile upgrade that would maintain essentially an identical sound signature as the FXD80 (very high black levels, transparent, very articulate, smooth treble etc.) but with the added vocals?

I just used my Clip Zip with both of my Audio Technicas earlier.... I forgot that with a little careful EQ tweaks that these are also pretty impressive 'phones. The thing I love about the S500 is no EQ required....in that regard it betters everything else I have, except in soundstage, where the 780s clean house.

So at the moment, I have four headphones I really enjoy, a few others that are decent.....and another set coming in the mail soon. Life is good!

With ATH Pleathers the S500 on FiiO E11 eq2 sounds almost exactly like the same setup with stock pads and eq0. :)

At the moment, I'm enjoying HM5 over ATH pleathers with vents taped and E11 eq2. I would have thought that having the vents taped plus eq2 would be too much, but I guess the bass is reduced a bit with the HM5 pads. Once I get the rings for the HM5 pads though, I'll be trying various other configurations - should be fun :)
