The S500'S sound great on the Note II, they're so sensitive, an amp is not needed. Im currently listening to flacs that I just ripped with the note II and the S500's running Power amp.post #3588 of 649312/9/12 at 7:39pm- waynes world

As some of you may know, Doc had to do the rope-a-dope a bit when he shoved the S500 from his #1 over-achiever spot and replaced it with the Phillips Cityscape Uptown headphones:
Â
Well yesterday, in a Christmas-shopping-zombie-stupor, I staggered into a local Winners stores and found the Uptowns for $50 and the Downtowns for $40. It's hard to believe the Uptowns were $150 a year ago! I thought "what the heck" and got them to try out.
Â
I've been enjoying them for a day now, and they are nice. Do they deserve to supplant the almighty S500's? This will be determined!

Lol! I will be very honest with my subjective appraisal. If the S500 sucks after all, and we have all been infected with some dsnuts-started-hallucinogenic hype-train, then so be it!

Nope almost got them but got rejected by the ebay seller cuz offer was not good enough. LoL But it looks like the akg 167 will be my eventual downfall. ha
Â
If only akg would have gotten their act together and stop trolling asses with them stupid non-detachable cables for a pricy $200 set of cans. Any set of cans over $150 without a detachable cable is utter fail/ laziness on the makers part. If the monoprice DJ cans has one for $21, akg has no excuses whatsoever. If not for this flaw i would have already gotten those 167s already.

Jokes aside, I've been splitting my time evenly between my S500 and my HFI-780. But after all, the 780 costs 3 or 4 times what the S500 costs....and I am keeping both of them.
Â
Â
Â
Cheap hard carrying case for the S500.....Tupperware!
Â
Â
Â
Normally when I go work I toss a Clip Zip and my Sennheiser PX90's in here....(they don't fold up like the PX100 so I wanted to protect them and their flimsy cables).
But today I thought to try putting the S500's in there, and sure enough they fit.
So you guys might have something around the house already that will work as travel protection for the S500's. post #3598 of 649312/9/12 at 8:45pm- sfwalcer

Quote:SWEET please say they suck. LoL I think these S500s can hang with them, from all the impressions of the 167 thread i have gathered they seems like they sound pretty similar but the akgs have a bigger soundstage and probably better treble. Since the 167 seems to be another of the jack-of-all-trades that does everything beautifully as well, just like these S500s.
Â
Will see, be gentle on the S500s when you compare them with those godly akg DannyBai, OK??? T__T
Â
Thanks meng!!!

Man, I have most of the popular portable headphones released recently and the cheaper S500 still holds its own. Â Good enough that I will end up selling off my least favorites of the bunch eventually and the S500's will stay with me. Â
